    Job Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, volunteers and children at all times.Greets parents and children during a bus route. Carries out all duties and responsibilities as related to caring for children and supervising them while they are aboard the bus. Responsible for seeing that children board and leave the bus in a safe manner. Responsible for seeing that children are seated safely in an age appropriate child restraint system and behave properly while being transported. Conduct educational activities while in transit that extend and reinforce classroom learning.This may include singing, telling stories, playing visual games or doing quiet activities throughout a bus route. Responsible for seeing that children are accounted for and are safely in their designated classroom upon arrival. Checking the bus after children have unloaded to ensure that all children are off the bus and for personal belongings of children that may have been left on the bus. Responsible for seeing that children are returned to parent or other authorized adult. Assist with the orderliness and cleanliness of the bus and the center. Deliver messages/notes/materials as necessary between Center Staff and parents. Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind (Non-Federal Match) for parent and community activities. Attend and participate in center staff meetings. Participate in parent meetings and staffing as requested. Attend and participate in annual Transportation Trainings. Assist the bus driver in conducting the Bus Emergency Evacuation drills and the Transportation Safety for Children training. Perform other duties as needed and required for efficient operation of the center and needs and welfare of the children. Responsible for data management in designated areas. Assist in the avoidance or appearance of fraud and ensure compliance in designated areas of the Center. Hours: Part-Time/Non-Exempt position, Mon.-Fri. Work hours 6:00 am- 8:30 am and 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm hours will vary depending on enrollment & routes. Salary $ 13.25 - 16.17 depending on experience.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalency is preferred. School bus drivers are to have a class A or B CDL, a school bus endorsement, air brake endorsement and passenger endorsement. Reports rental of bus to Transportation Department for insurance purposes. Completes accurately and timely all reports or other papers requested by the Transportation Department of School Board. Conducts two pre-trip inspections daily, keeping trip sheet on bus ready for reference upon request. Submits monthly pre-trip inspections' sheets in a timely manner. Accepts and runs additional routes as directed by the Transportation Department. Maintains a mechanically safe, neat, and clean vehicle in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. Accurately records and reports mileage whenever requested to do so or when there is a change in route. Notifies parents of any schedule change, such as time and stop location. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of state and local traffic laws and local ordinances governing motor vehicle operations. Notifies Transportation Department immediately of all accidents or incidents. Attends and actively participates in all meetings or in-service training programs as per mandatory requirements. Maintains an acceptable driving record in private as well as in the school bus. Establish proper techniques of passenger management and follow discipline procedures as established by the Louisiana Department of Education (See School Board Behavior Report). Maintain good public relations with students, parents, and school administrators. Conform to Louisiana law concerning the safety and welfare of assigned pupils. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties commensurate with the fulfillment of responsibilities of a school bus driver as assigned by the St. Landry Parish School Board and the Supervisor of Transportation. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be in good health. Must have physical strength adequate to maneuver the bus and assist passengers. Job requires long periods of sitting in the same position. Good hearing, color discrimination and depth perception are necessary. The ability to work appropriately with others in close proximity is a must. MENTAL ABILITIES: Must be mentally alert at all times while operating the bus. Total concentration required while driving, loading, and unloading students. ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS: Must be able to perform job responsibilities in both good and inclement weather conditions. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine (9) months per year; salary in accordance with current salary schedule.
