Community Volunteer company history timeline

1964

After the war, major developments including the Peace Corps and President Lyndon B Johnson’s “War on Poverty” in 1964 started the expansion of volunteer opportunities that continues today.

1964: As part of Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty program, the government created VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America), which uses public funds to create a non-professional volunteer organization to mobilize volunteers throughout the country.

1970

1970: The Samaritan’s Purse Charitable Foundation, based in America, mobilizes volunteers and resources from around the world in disaster zones.

1985

1985: The seeds of one of the largest volunteer programs and charities in history, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, were planted when Gates released Windows.

1994

1994: “The Convoy of Hope”, an innovative convoy through the streets that organizes thousands of church volunteers every month and volunteer events across the particular communities, was founded by a small family in Missouri and has become a significant volunteer effort known nationwide.

2017

Since 2017, organizations have used our platform to help us build a network of over 4m ardent supporters who have taken over 15m actions—and that number continues to grow daily.

2020

During the 2020 elections, these actions helped us power the largest online mobilization program in history.
