In 1881, local religious leaders began exploring options for how to address the growing orphan population in the region.
Margaretha Oertel ceded her 46-acre farm to those local ministers in memory of her late husband, Christian, on December 4, 1882.
In 1883, Mother Stanislaus Leary and several other women set out for Arizona to establish another foundation.
Mother Stanislaus took residence in Concordia in 1884.
The hospital, owned and operated by the Sisters of St Joseph, was established in Concordia in 1903.
Some land west of town was purchased, and construction of the new facility began in late 1949.
1963 - Central therapy began, hospital store and purchasing department added
1997 Home health care service line began private duty operations
1998 Home health care service line received certification to provide Medicare services
In 1998, Concordia dedicated a new personal care, skilled nursing care facility, the Lund Care Center.
2002 Home health care service line opened an office in New Kensington.
In 2002 the third retirement living apartment building, Haven III, was built.
2003 Concordia HomeHelp was acquired and is a joint association between Concordia Lutheran Ministries and Presbyterian Senior Care
In 2003, the hospital became a stand-alone non-profit facility.
2005 Concordia becomes managing partner in a newly formed collaboration for home care with Presbyterian SeniorCare and Asbury Heights, operated by United Methodist Services for the Aging, in the South Hills titled Alliance Visiting Nurses absorbing Concordia HomeHelp.
Concordia Visiting Nurses History Timeline Thus, on July 1, 2006, Concordia formally reorganized into a family of companies.
But the new personal care rooms became home temporarily for more than 100 retirement living residents who were displaced following a fire on November 5, 2006 that destroyed our first retirement living building, Haven I.
2007 Concordia Visiting Nurses moves headquarters to former Markus Hall on the Concordia Lutheran Ministries campus.
2009 VNA Alliance, a Medicare certified, state licensed, Medicaid approved home care agency was developed as a Partnership of Wesbury, St Paul, Meadville Medical Center and Concordia Visiting Nurses.
