Highly qualified seasonal trail crew leaders are recruited each year to lead crews that complete routine trail maintenance, major rehabilitation/repair, and relocation projects in both front-country and remote backcountry settings along the Appalachian Trail from Georgia. These critical positions manage trail crews, train and supervise crew member volunteers and staff to complete high quality work, ensure crew is operating safely both in camp and on the worksite, and respond to emergency situations. Qualifications: Minimum one year of Crew Lead experience required Must be VDOT Basic Certified or hold an equivalent or higher certification Must have a valid drivers license with minimal traffic violations Responsibilities: Work with construction team to establish safe movement of traffic around site, in accordance with safety regulations Direct traffic flow using Department of Transportation regulations Flag motorists to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead Set up, maintain, and remove temporary work zones including warning signs, traffic cones, and other warning devices according to job assignment Work around hazardous equipment and moving vehicular traffic Drive company vehicle to and from job sites in a safe manner Ensure the company vehicle is kept clean, properly maintained, and in compliance with safety and operational standards Follow all safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment Ensure daily testing and inspection of assigned tools and equipment Maintain an accurate inventory of all equipment issued to you Complete all paperwork accurately and in a timely manner Ensure all crew members are properly equipped with PPE and are adhering to all DOT regulations Communicate effectively with contractors to ensure clarity and collaboration Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures Requirements: Must be able to work in all temperatures and weather conditions Must be able to remain in standing position for long periods of time Must be able to lift, move and maneuver up to 55 pounds on an occasional basis, and up to 10 pounds on a continuous basis Must be physically capable to perform all flagging duties Must have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use appropriate equipment and tools Must have excellent communication skills Be willing to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. as needed.
