Under the guidance of your crew foreman you will:
* Learn, keep current with and apply the Morton Buildings' safety and construction procedures, methods, and standards
* Read, understand and build according to construction plans
* Utilize various tools and equipment to safely and efficiently construct buildings
* Efficiently execute tasks such as: digging and installing footings, framing walls and roof structures, installing windows, entry and other doors and door openings, installing various siding and roofing materials including hi-rib steel, shingles, wood and other siding materials and mortarless masonry units, finishing with metal and wood trims
* Work with other crew personnel in a safe, organized, productive and enjoyable work environment treating everyone with dignity and respect
QUALIFICATIONS
* Building construction (post-frame), carpentry or framing experience preferred (on the job or in school)
* Willingness to participate in and complete a training program
* A valid driver's license is preferred
* Available to work 9-10 hours during peak construction season.
* Ability to take direction
* Produce quality work in an efficient manner
* Agree to comply with all our safety processes and procedures
* Willingness to maintain and operate construction tools in a safe and proper manner
* Ability to operate specialized safety equipment efficiently and effectively
* Standard weight lifting requirements - 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 100 pounds
* Capable of working in a physically demanding environment and at various heights (up to 40 feet)
* This position requires 50% travel, which includes overnight travel possibly up to two weeks at a time.

When needed you will process material for outbound shipments
This is a labor position that will require you to be on your feet and to be able to move around often.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area to ensure safety and efficiency.

Respond to complaints and service requests.

Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, and repairs.
Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew for the Storm Water Department. Pavement cutting, ditch digging, pipe repair, line cleaning, laying and backfilling.
Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, and water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources before excavation by verifying a valid TN 811 call.
Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, dirt, and sand.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Mow and maintain City-owned property as needed.
Operates medium and heavy-size construction and power equipment including but not limited to backhoe, excavator, skid steer, and dump trucks.
Ability to read and understand GIS mapping and construction plans.
Responsible for ensuring that traffic safety measures are taken during road closures including but not limited to safety equipment, signage, flagging, and lighting as required.
Performs as the lead heavy equipment operator for the stormwater department including but not limited to a backhoe, excavator, and skid steer.
Responsible for overseeing and managing the stormwater department's workflow during the absence of the department supervisor.
Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or vocational training preferred.
Proven experience in nonferrous material processing or similar industrial environment preferred.
Ability read,write and do basic math
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify different types of materials accurately.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks as required.
Prior forklift experience helpful

Job Summary
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water facilities and systems, as well as street and storm drainage facilities and systems for the Water, Street, and Sewer divisions of the Public Works Department. THIS IS A SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with the planning, scheduling, and implementation of construction, maintenance, and operation activities designed to provide quality street, water, and sewer systems and facilities.
Assists in the training of lower-level employees performing the duties of maintenance, construction, and repair for the different departments.
Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, etc.
Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources before excavation.
Responds to complaints and service requests.
Mows and maintains city property, pump stations, etc.
Contacts residents and business owners in the area where services or access may be discontinued and explains when access or services will be restored.
Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking them after use.
Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of different equipment, gravel, and sand.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor.
Cleans equipment.
Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment.
Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.
Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew for the Water, Street, and/or Sewer Departments.
Pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, central and pipe repair, laying, and backfilling.
Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans, and flushes storm water mains, pipes, gates, and fittings on the repair of lines and fire hydrants.
Cross-trains and/or perform as needed in other areas of public works such as Streets, Sewer, and Fleet Departments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair.
Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities related to water distribution include and/or collection.
Valid Tennessee Driver's License or the ability to obtain a valid Tennessee Driver's License.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
Skill in the operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily conducted in field settings. Significant outdoor work is required. Hand-eye coordination is essential for operating testing instruments, computers, and various office equipment. While carrying out the responsibilities of this job, the employee may occasionally need to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear, as well as use their hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
