In this role, the Community Educator will organize and conduct outreach with small-scale farmers and food business owners, focusing on Spanish-speaking communities in Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kings, and Tulare Counties. They will enhance and support in delivering bilingual educational materials, presentations, and workshops tailored to the needs of small-scale food and farming businesses. The incumbent is responsible for case management and assisting in the coordination of outreach services (e.g., student recruitment, college placement, school outreach) for program participants to support the educational experience of the students/participants, as well as perform other activities related to student success and academic advising. This position requires significant collaboration with school counselors, administrators, teachers, parents, and university staff to meet program objectives and ensure compliance with TRIO, SSU, CSU, and U.S. Department of Education regulations. Duties will take place primarily on-site at Lake County target high schools, including, but not limited to, Kelseyville High School, Middletown High School, and Upper Lake High School. Key Qualifications This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of work experience. Two years' experience with TRIO, academic support, or similar programs, including two years' experience working with low-income, first-generation minority or disadvantaged students required. Establish and maintain strong relationships with local community organizations, leaders, and stakeholders. Collaborate with community partners to promote health programs and services. Health Education: Design and facilitate health education classes based on the needs of the community and referrals from healthcare providers. Provide information on preventive care, chronic disease management, nutrition, and other relevant health topics, including but not limited to interventions. Create and distribute educational materials to support health promotion efforts. Patient Advocacy: Assist community members in understanding and accessing healthcare services. Provide guidance on available resources and support services. Care Coordination: Collaborate with healthcare providers at SJCH to coordinate care plans for individuals with chronic conditions or complex health needs. Facilitate communication between patients, providers, and other healthcare team members. Track and report on the progress of care plans and interventions. Data Collection and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, community engagement, and health education sessions. Compile data on community health trends, needs, and challenges. Generate regular reports for internal evaluation and improvement. Event Coordination: Planned and executed health campaigns, community events, and health fairs with the goal of raising awareness and fostering engagement among residents. Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a liaison between the community and the Chief Government Affairs and Community Relations Officer (CGACRO) and support the CGACRO as needed. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local healthcare providers, community organizations, and governmental agencies. Foster open lines of communication to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment. Attend government, community, and private interest group meetings to stay informed about key community issues. Produce briefing memos before community meetings and detailed reports after community meetings describing the discussions and key issues raised in various community forums. Maintain awareness of community affairs and issues, reporting to the CGACRO as needed. Coordinate office procedures, ensuring efficiency in routine tasks and correspondence. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION Coordinates an array of community outreach activities and functions related to recruiting and enrolling new and continuing students into the college; promotes the college's educational programs, vocational (CTE) careers, and related services to new and prospective students. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives limited direction from appropriate supervisor; refers only unusual decisions to supervisor. May provide technical and functional direction to assigned student workers. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES The following duties are typical for this classification. * Coordinates the college's outreach functions which may include, but not be limited to, student recruitment, the development of relationships with K-12 districts, and the development of relationships with community entities from which potential students are recruited. * Serves as an initial point of contact for members of the local community and local school districts desiring information about the college's resources generated from student recruitment and outreach efforts. * Collaborates with other departments to provide information for necessary programs and services designed to assure students' access, ease of entry and successful transition into college. * Assists in the development and use of a tracking and evaluation system to evaluate the progress of students from their recruitment through enrollment. * Participates in the development and delivery of student orientation programs for new and/or returning students. * Coordinates the development of events such as New Student Welcome Day, Senior Day, and student recruitment days. * Develops materials for outreach and recruitment. * Coordinates and participates in presentations to feeder schools and community entities, and conduct tours and presentations on campus. * Prepare and monitor the department's annual budget, and prepare the department's annual program plan. * Represent the college at off-campus functions, meetings, and events related to area of assignment. * Prepares and provides reports, program plans, and event plans. * Prepares and assesses Service Area Outcomes, Program Review and other related outcomes for outreach services. * Performs other duties related to the primary job duties.
