Cuyamaca College company history timeline

1979

May 30, 1979: Cuyamaca College holds its first Commencement with a graduating class of 38 students.

1985

On March 5, 1985, the Governing Board officially changed the name of the District to the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, thereby incorporating the name of our second campus in the title.

1988

August, 1988: College enrollment reaches 3,600 in the fall.

1993

The museum would hold its grand opening on January 23, 1993.

1994

Sherrill L. Amador, Ph.D., begins her tenure as president of Cuyamaca College on March 1, 1994.

Doctor Sherrill Amador began her tenure as college president in 1994 and a year later, Rancho San Diego Parkway opened as the college's new main entrance, providing better access to the campus.

2002

Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D., begins her tenure as Cuyamaca College president on January 7, 2002.

2008

The Science and Technology Center’s name is changed to the Wendell Cutting Center in December of 2008, marking the first time a building in the district is named after an individual.

2012

In November 2012, East County voters once again showed their support for the college district with the passage of Prop.

2014

Cuyamaca was a repeat winner of the coveted award in 2014.

2016

The Viticulture Apprenticeship Program was the only one of its kind in California when it launched in the fall of 2016.
