What Will You Do?
As an Auto Damage Appraiser, you will investigate, evaluate, negotiate and resolve auto material damage claims in a fair, prompt and equitable manner. You are a source of knowledge in auto and material damage with a focus on heavy trucks and trailers. When faced with the destructive aftermath of an accident, you help clients through the claims process. Federated provides a defined training program to teach you the fundamentals of commercial claims and prepare you to serve clients.
This is a remote/home-based position that will require travel by car and/or plane frequently. Roughly 50% of your time will be spend traveling. Frequent overnight travel and occasional multi-night travel included.
Responsibilities
* Evaluates claims, determines validity of coverage, and conducts investigation. Determines extent of damage through inspection of vehicles and other equipment. Prepares written estimate of repair costs and/or conducts an investigation to determine actual cash value.
* Negotiates directly with clients and third parties. Obtains and evaluates written and recorded salvage bids in total loss cases. Photographs damaged property as necessary to reflect the scope of the damage and the identity of the damaged property.
* Documents all investigations conducted and action taken to provide a complete, accurate, and self-sustaining record for future reference.
* Keeps technical manuals and electronic reference materials updated. Maintains knowledge of industry developments, repair techniques, and procedures.
* Plans and schedules work itinerary to make the most effective use of travel time.
Minimum Qualifications
* Prefer industry experience with heavy trucks & trailers with an interest in deepening industry and estimating knowledge
* Prefer two years' automotive body experience or vocational training in related field, demonstrating basic understanding of automobile body parts or a four year degree
* Must demonstrate the ability to proficiently and effectively manage assigned claims with minimum work direction. Prefer two years customer service experience
* Strong analytical, computer and time management skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
* Current pursuing, or have obtained a four-year degree

As a Property Field Appraiser, you will be responsible for meeting virtually or in-person with the policyholder at their home to investigate, assess and facilitate remediation and repair decisions on residential property damage claims. Regularly negotiating and reaching agreement with vendors and contractors on repair operations while applying policy contract provisions to resolve claims timely and accurately. This is primarily a task-based position, which refers to being assigned the field and/or virtual inspection portion of the claim to determine the scope of repairs and prepare a complete estimate that involves all aspects of the damaged dwelling and other structures on the claim. You partner and work as a team with the Claim Owner to address the policyholder's needs to complete the claim. Superior verbal and written communication skills are essential to communicate as required throughout the claims process. You may also be assigned Claim File ownership on a relatively small number of files. Must be able to work independently with minimal management involvement and possess excellent time-management skills. Periodic (less than 10%) travel within California may be required as well when needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide superior customer service to our policyholders while working autonomously in the field and based in your home-office.

Compensation
Base compensation offered for this role is $31.75 - $43.53 hourly and is based on experience and qualifications.

The agency's increasing workload in right of way acquisition and federally funded infrastructure projects requires a senior-level review appraiser with the highest professional credentials. The MAI designation is critical to ensuring appraisal credibility, compliance, and defensibility in eminent domain cases and project funding approvals. This position will reduce risk of litigation, increase efficiency in acquisition processes, and provide expert oversight of appraisal contractors.
Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and approve appraisals for right of way projects, corridor acquisitions, easements, and eminent domain proceedings.
Ensure technical compliance with UASFLA, USPAP, and Federal regulations.
Provide written appraisal reviews and recommendations to leadership.
Serve as a resource and advisor to project managers, attorneys, and acquisition specialists regarding valuation methodology.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior appraisers and acquisition staff.
Represent the agency as an expert witness in administrative hearings and court proceedings.
Develop and maintain internal guidance, policies, and training related to appraisal and review processes.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
MAI designation (Appraisal Institute).
Certified General Appraiser license from the Texas Appraiser Licensing Certification Board (TALCB) following standards set by the Appraiser Qualifications Board.
Bachelor's degree or higher in real estate, finance, economics, business, or related field.
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible real estate appraisal experience in Texas, with at least 3 years in review appraisal for right of way projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of UASFLA (Yellow Book), USPAP, and eminent domain appraisal practices.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to prepare review reports and provide expert testimony.
Preferred Qualifications
Federal or State agency experience with right of way acquisition programs.
Experience coordinating with legal counsel, engineers, and acquisition specialists.
Knowledge of federal land acquisition regulations and relocation assistance programs.
Prior service as a review appraiser for corridor or large-scale infrastructure projects.
Target salary range: $100k - 140k

What You'll Do
Conducts an unbiased and impartial valuation of residential real estate by analyzing market and property specific data, and completes appraisal reports in accordance with USPAP, government, company, regulatory board, and client specific guidelines.
Inspects residential real estate of all types and documents on-site data collection/inspection with photographs, measurements, sketches, diagrams, and field notes.
Considers all factors that could influence property value including, but not limited to legal characteristics, highest and best use, market conditions, locational factors, site, view, design, quality, age, condition, size, physical attributes, etc.
Must be proficient sales comparison, cost, and income approaches to value.
Must pe proficient with local MLS and local real estate data sources.
Must be proficient with major form types (1004, 2055, 1073, 1075, 1025, Review Forms, etc.)
Partners with Senior Appraisers/Appraisal Helpdesk to ensure quality at an assignment level, and also to make individual process improvements to eliminate addendums and quality control rejections.
Participates in monthly Appraiser meeting.
Meets all department turn time expectations and proactively escalates appropriately if timeframes are unable to be met.

This position pays a state minimum wage draw against a percentage fee split.
