    Title: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Danbury Hospital Perinatology - Danbury, CT - Per Diem - Weekdays, 8 hour shifts, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Summary: Performs diagnostic Ultrasound procedures by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. Provides interpreting physicians with oral or written summaries of technical findings on ultrasound, while simultaneously providing basic patient care, comfort and safety. Responsibilities: 1. Maintains full working knowledge of ultrasound techniques and anatomy in obstetrical and gynecological patients. Performs initial evaluation of fetal anatomy, biometric measurements and fetal activity. 2. Assists Perinatologist with scanning of patient. Explains procedure to patient and significant other. Demonstrates normal and abnormal anatomy and relay findings to doctor. 3. Assists Perinatologist with amniocentesis. Explains procedure to the patient, ensures that appropriate forms are filled out. Sets up equipment needed for the procedure. Assists needle insertion with ultrasound guidance. Explains post amniocentesis restrictions to patient. 4. Evaluates and maintains equipment and materials needed for procedures. Maintains inventory of supplies, linens and instrument trays needed to efficiently provide ultrasounds, amniocentesis and gyn examination. 5. Maintains 30 CME per triennium required for certification. Attends continuing education programs and participates in professional organizations. Maintains teaching tapes for ultrasound cases. Assists in orientation and training of OB/GYN residents and medical students. 6. Consults with administrative staff to insure that all procedures have adequate staff coverage. Coordinates patient and staff schedules. Informs director of staff scheduling conflicts/concerns. 7. Trains and orients perinatal ultrasound staff in all aspects of patient care. Assists staff in learning new ultrasound related techniques/procedures/protocols etc. Collaborates with Perinatologist to assure technical quality of procedures. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. 9. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. 10. Maintains and Models Nuvance Health Values. 11. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance. 12. Performs other duties as required. Other Information: Required: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program. American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography in OB/GYN within one year of hire. Desired: One year experience in OB ultrasound. Patient Identification and Preparation Criteria A: Properly identifies patients by name/DOB as well as introducing himself/herself to the patient by first name. Patient Identification and Preparation Criteria B: Reviews prescription for accuracy and completeness and completes/initials history form. Patient Identification and Preparation Criteria C: Advises patients on proper exam preparation including dietary restrictions and appropriate attire.
