The Pharmacy Technician 2 will assist pharmacists in the formulation, preparation, dispensing, delivery and storage of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. The pharmacy technician will ensure that products and services are provided in timely, safe and cost effective manner according to department policies, procedures, and practice standards. A Pharmacy Technician 2 will have additional responsibilities related to high risk IV admixture, inventory management and cost saving initiatives.
Responsibilities:
General
1. Maintains and complies with all state, federal and regulatory requirements for pharmacy and medication management. Performs monthly quality assurance activities. Adheres to all network wide policies and procedures including those related to attendance, customer service, Health Stream education modules, & cost containment. Participates in daily huddles and staff meetings. Responsible for the oversight and work flow of 2 areas of responsibility (to be assigned by manager). Recommends process improvement plans annually.
Central Dispensing
2. Adheres to medication distribution process workflow. Operates pharmacy dispensing technology and able to troubleshoot problem/failures and operates pharmacy systems as appropriate. Assists pharmacist in the gathering and preparing medications (per provider orders) will adhering to policies related to unit dose packaging, regulations and proper record keeping. Prepares extemporaneous compounds following established USP 795 standards and practices.
IV Admixture / USP 797 Compliance
3. Completes routine USP 797 competencies. Adheres to department standards regarding daily workflow. Prepares all IV admixtures following 797 policies and procedures. Performs USP 797 required Monthly Clean (per dept SOP).
Hazardous Drug Handling - USP 800
4. Identifies medications considered "hazardous" by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and WCHN Policy. Complies with USP 800 when handling hazardous medications. Completes annual didactic test on USP 800 proper practice and procedures. Performs hazardous medication preparation in compliance with USP 800 standards, including chemo and cross covering in cancer center. Responds and resolves proper USP 800 procedure when dealing with a chemical spill.
Automated Dispensing Cabinet / Vault
5. Operates ADC information system and follows department SOP regard daily workflow for vault technician. Accurately fills and maintains automated dispensing machines and controlled substance orders following departmental and statutory requirements. Performs required audits, proper record keeping of controlled substance dispensing and waste - assess audits being completed on regular basis. Assists/resolves all ADC discrepancy reports hospital wide. Maintains ADC drug inventory levels both in and outside of the department. Assists in preparation for state and federal inspection.
Inventory Management
6. Identifies medication ordering needs proactively. Communicates restock needs to correct staff and maintains appropriate par levels. Places orders related to pharmacy supplies (stockroom vs drugs). Receives and restocks new inventory. Accurately receives controlled substances into pharmacy vault (with witness). Identifies and navigates potential drug shortages.

Performs and is available to work across the WCHN Network testing and assisting in basic and advanced procedures in the pulmonary lab on patients who require services provided by the department.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs pulmonary function tests utilizing the sensor medics system.
2. Performs metabolic stress testing utilizing the sensor medics system.
3. Assists the physician during bronchoscopy and thorocentesis. Takes responsibility for ensuring samples procured during the procedure get properly labeled & sent to the laboratory.

LICENSURE

* 1. Performs all Nuclear Medicine procedures.
* 1.1 Demonstrates competent and proficient use of the Hospital Picture Achieving System (PACS) as observed by the supervisor and Radiologist.
* 2. Performs test and maintenance procedures on equipment and apparatus.
* 2.1 Regularly checks equipment for operational readiness, safety and accuracy as indicated by random review of maintenance log.
* 3. Prepares radiopharmaceuticals for administration and administers to patient.
* 3.1 Readies radiopharmaceuticals in accordance to prescribed dose as observed by Radiologist.
* 4. Maintains records in accordance with NRC license/Regulatory guidelines for radiation safety.
* 4.1 Completes required records as outlined by the NRC license as indicated by random quarterly review of records.
* 5. Monitors Hot Lab and department radiation levels.
* 5.1 Performs wipe test in all areas of department according to protocol as observed by supervisor.
* 6. Orders supplies and radiopharmaceuticals as required.
* 6.1 Maintains an efficient level of inventory as observed by supervisor.
* 7. Instructs Hospital personnel on proper handling of isotopes and procedures in the event of contamination.
* 7.1 Willingly and conscientiously provides instruction to other personnel as assigned and observed by supervisor.
* 8. Assists with the training of new staff, residents and students.
* 8.1 Participates in the orientation of new staff, students and radiology residents as required and observed by supervisor.
* 9. Plans and/or implements care for assigned patients.
* 9.1 Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from adolescence to old age and applies developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the adult patient as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
* 10. Accurately enters all applicable information and charges for procedures.
* 10.1 Enters all patients ordered information into the RIS according to department protocol as observed by the manaager.
* 11. Contributes to an effective quality management and quality control program for assigned area that is consistent with overall departmental/hospital quality management plan.

Under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist, performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to produce quality images as requested for subsequent interpretation by the nuclear physician. Responsibilities
* 1. Performs high quality dynamic, static, and gated SPECT and PET imaging procedures utilizing appropriate age specific standards to obtain the desired diagnostic patient information for the referring physician.
* 1.1 Performs the daily operation of a variety of SPECT and PET/CT cameras and computers in accordance with prescribed departmental procedures to produce images of high diagnostic quality as observed by the nuclear physician or supervisor.
* 2. Performs various radiopharmacy duties including receipt, preparation, administration and storage of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals to ensure safety and integrity of the agents used. Properly recording all duties according to departmental policy.
* 2.1 Obtains radionuclides by eluting generator systems or from bulk shipments maintaining sterile technique and shielding. All radioactive materials received are checked for leakage and activity according to departmental procedure as observed by supervisor or radiation safety officer.
* 3. Performs Quality Control procedures according to departmental protocol to obtain the desired result or information needed.
* 3.1 Technologist demonstrates knowledge of all departmental QC procedures for general and PET nuclear medicine.
* 4. Performs quality control procedures to ensure optimal performance of gamma cameras, computers and other related auxiliary equipment (dose calibrators, well counters, etc.)
* 4.1 Performs daily, weekly, and monthly quality control on all instrumentation including uniformity checks, linearity, center of rotation and other indicated tests according to departmental procedure to ensure all equipment is in proper working order as observed by supervisor or peers.
* 5. Practices safe handling of radioactive materials according to departmental and federal regulations to ensure minimal radiation exposure to self and others.
* 5.1 Follows ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) guidelines for radiation exposure including use of syringe shields and lead carrying cases as observed by supervisor and peers and as evidenced by monthly film badge reports.
* 6. Performs job-related tasks in a timely manner as needed to ensure the goals of the department are met.
* 6.1 Schedules patients for procedures in Imagecast and tracks assigned patients' arrival and completion status as observed by supervisor.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Graduation from an A.M.A. approved program in Nuclear Medicine. AS degree required, BS degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine Nuclear Medicine imaging., NMTCB or ARRT (N) certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology required (may not be on any type of probation). CPR Certification perferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS
Must have a basic knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals, nuclear medicine equipment and nuclear medicine imaging procedures. Above average knowledge of anatomy, computer/Pacs applications, and good organizational and communication/customer service skills.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
