The Medical Assistant role provides clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.
Responsibilities:
Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by the Providers according to policy and procedure
Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
Communicates patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes
Accurate and timely documentation of care within EPIC system
Performs point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed
Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
Performs routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms
Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members

SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting the quality delivery of dental care by preparing and organizing instruments, patient, operatory and dental materials. The assistant is also responsible for following the guidelines of OSHA and the OhioDental Practice Act.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work as a team player with a positive attitude.
Be fully trained to assist the Doctor on all dental procedures.
Seat patients in the chair as soon as possible.
Educate patients on all procedures to be done.
Reinforce oral hygiene instructions.
Stock operatories and help other assistants keep rooms stocked.
Chart thoroughly all procedures done and document thoroughly what was said to the patient on electronic records.
Turn all equipment on at the beginning of each day, and off when the day is done.
Maintain OSHA Standards.
Keep work areas neat and organized.
Autoclave cleaning and monitoring sterilization spore testing.
Cleaning of water lines and testing of lines.
Cleaning traps in operatories.
Draining and performing maintenance on compressor and vacuum.
Knowledge of various dental procedures and instruments
Ability to perform basic dental procedures such as cleaning, X-rays and dental impressions (if certified)
Customer service skills.
Ability to perform office management tasks such as scheduling appointments and ordering supplies.
Excellent communication skills
Organizational skills
Ability to work with insurance companies to complete prior authorizations.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of Dental Assistant Program or equivalent experience.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Have X-ray certification in Ohio and able to perform digital radiography
Must be CPR certified.

Upon direction and supervision of the treating dentist, and within legal guidelines of expanded duties, assist dentist with adjustments on dentures and denture insertions
Tally time sheets in an accurate and timely manner and give to FDA for dentist approval and signature
Assist treating dentist with surgery
Take and develop x-rays as needed (has certification, where certification is required)
Consistently sterilize instruments with minimal direction, including impression trays and hand piece burs and wipes down equipment after each patient
Escort each patient to the check out area, with appropriate paperwork
Maintain clean work area at all times; participate in daily cleaning duties, including vacuuming and emptying of waste receptacles, cleaning operatories and instruments
Inventory and re-order supplies as instructed
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Minimal travel may be required for training and/or continuing education purposes
