Attention all Dental Assistants, we are calling on you to partner with us to complete dental exams, treatment, and X-rays to our Military Service members.
We will primarily work weekends, with some occasional weekdays in the State of VA on an "as needed basis".
We provide health readiness services to meet the medical and dental requirements to maintain a deployable military force for the following:
U.S. Army Reserve (USAR)
Army National Guard (ARNG)
U.S. Navy Reserve (USNR)
U.S. Marine Forces Reserve (MARFORRES)
U.S. Coast Guard Reserve (USCGR)

SUPERVISOR: Dentist/Practice Manager
STATUS: Full Time or Part Time/ Non-Exempt
The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing direct assistance for all clinical services, including evening hours as needed (Tuesdays or Thursdays twice a month). Performing daily clinical tasks as directed to support the overall function of Bradley Free Clinic's dental services. Work together as a team within the department to ensure high-quality dental services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Care/Dental Clinic Daily Operation
Complete intake(update dental history and have the patient sign the consent form)and vitals for the patient before the appointment.
Serve as chairside assistant and train volunteers who are serving as assistants.
Conduct x-rays and follow all OSHA regulations;
Sterilize instruments and train volunteers on sterilization processes;
Complete daily, weekly, and monthly autoclave maintenance;
Write clinical encounter notes for staff and volunteer dentists as needed (follow text macros when completing Dental notes)
Maintain, clean, stock and organize all equipment and supplies;
Identify supplies needed and add to ordering list (List is verified with Lead Dentist)
Stock and set up all four operatories prior to clinic days of operation;
Break down and clean all operatories after every clinic; re-stock supplies, maintain clean and orderly working space, and make sure all trash is emptied;
Ensure autoclave, processor, x-ray machines in all the operatories and Panorex are turned off at the end of each clinic;
Ensure patient records, treatment plans, services, and follow ups are properly charted and tracked in Eaglesoft and Athena;
Always know where the exposure control book is located and the proper steps to take if there is an incident/exposure; Notify a direct supervisor immediately;
Make patient reminder call for following day;
Attend regular meeting of Dental Team.
Help ensure volunteers (students, providers and others) sign in each time they volunteer;
Support management in ensuring all volunteers and students are aware of and abide by Bradley Free Clinic's mission, vision and values; follow BFC policies and procedures; and are aware of and follow the personnel manual.
Other duties as assigned.

Excellent communications skills;
Patience, understanding, and compassion in direct interactions with clients;

Must have to ability to maintain confidentiality at all times;
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and should be able to adapt to changing situations;

BENEFITS

Always know where the exposure control book is located and the proper steps to take if there is an incident/exposure; Notify a direct supervisor immediately;
Make patient reminder call for following day;

10. Autoclave - maintains water levels daily, loads instruments, runs sterilization cycle; then removes sterilized instruments and redistributes to proper locations.
11. Keeps operatories stocked w/ appropriate materials and instruments, including ordering supplies as needed to maintain office inventory.
12. Cleans operatories and all equipment used according to OSHA standards after each dental procedure.
13. Cleans suction lines and traps in operatories on a weekly basis.
14. Cleans traps in equipment room every other week.
15. Cleans autoclaves and tests sterilization (using Biostrips) monthly.
16. Pulls trash from operatories and other clinic areas twice weekly.
17. Acts as liaison for patient to convey medical and dental information to and from the dentist or hygienist during treatment-related phone conversations, as well as during clinic visits.
18. Assists with the school dental program in all areas of preparation and implementation.
19. Assists at front desk, when available, to answer phones, schedule appointments, and receive payment for services.
20. Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and necessary to perform the essential functions of the Dental Assistant position.
Administrative Duties:
1. Performs limited administrative functions involving treatment notes and charting for patient dental records and health histories.
2. Assists in performing front office procedures in the absence of the Front Office Specialist including checking in patients, receiving payments and scheduling appointments.
3. Assists/coordinates with the school program, marketing, collecting data and preparation as determined by Johnson Health Center.
Performance Improvement Activities:
1. Attends staff meetings and participates in the Johnson Health Center QI program.
Safety/Infection Control Activities:
1. Attends all mandatory OSHA infection control seminars, and follows general OSHA guidelines for infection control, including “Universal Precautions.”
2. Abides by all Johnson Health Center infection control policies, including acute response measures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.

Reporting Relationships:
The Dental Assistant reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Lead Assistant, who reports to the Chief Dental Officer.
Evaluation:
The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing, and will be carried out by the Lead Assistant or Chief Dental Officer. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the Lead Assistant or Chief Dental Officer.
Qualifications:
1. Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Two to five years of previous experience in a dental setting preferred.
3. Ability to work well with a team required.
4. Working knowledge of MS Office products and general computer usage.
5. Excellent organizational skills required.
Status:
This is an FLSA Non-Exempt position. This is an OSHA high risk position. This is an ADA negotiable position.
