Education and Experience:
The Dental Assistant shall possess a certification from an accredited Dental Assistant school. Training must include dental radiology and radiology safety.
The Dental Assistant shall be certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
The Assistant must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience providing chairside dental assisting services and be a Registered Dental Assistant, this is a requirement.
Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable.
Responsibilities:
Must possess the ability to collect and track data and enter data into the agency's electronic system and track scheduling of patient care
Must have knowledge and experience in maintaining patient medical records and confidentiality.
Is responsible for provision of the services as listed:
Assists Dental Officer in dental specialty sections: restorative, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations.
Retrieve patient's records and escorts patients to the proper dental specialty section.
Assists Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs, and medications.
Provides dental health education.
Dental prophylaxis.
Dental screening examination.
Preparation of patients for periodontal surgery.
Dental and periodontal charting.
Prepares places and removes packs.
Place temporary fillings.
Places and removes rubber dams.
Cleans, sharpens, and sterilizes instruments.
Performs daily inspection of equipment and makes minor repairs.
Reports defective equipment or utilizes corrective action.
Performs routine oral prophylaxis of the clinical crowns of teeth.
Uses dental hand instruments, mechanical instruments (including ultrasonic), oral hygiene aides, and prophylaxis paste to provide necessary oral prophylactic services.
Selects and applies medication in proper portion and anticariogenic agents to surface of teeth.
Fabricates and repairs dental prosthesis and appliances under supervision.
Performs procedures pursuant to fabrication and repair of complete denture prosthesis and removable partial prosthesis.
Uses acrylic resins and porcelain as basic materials.
Takes radiographs of patients using standard and digital dental radiographic, panelist, cephalometric, and transcranial equipment.
Obtains diagnostic quality periapical, occlusal, lateral, jaw, TMJ, and pantographic radiographs.
Processes and saves digital radiographs to patient medical records.
Performs quality assurances on radiographic and developing equipment and safelight.
Maintains proper infection control procedures in radiographic techniques.
Sterilizes contaminated biological waste of dental clinics.
Places and finishes dental restorations, including bases and liners.
Make primary impressions and pour casts.
Selects tooth shade for composite restorations and dentures.

How You'll Make a Difference
As an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, you will perform daily duties to help create lasting impressions and build trust and loyalty with patients.
* Assist with the direction to DA office team throughout the day to maintain productive patient flow.
* Assist the doctors during a variety of treatment procedures.
* Breakdown operatory rooms for doctors and hygienists.
* Complete sterilization processes for equipment and operatory and ensures all staff is properly trained and compliant on the process.
* Follow maintenance schedules for flushing waterlines/suction lines, and/or waterline testing, autoclave, and compressor on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
* Tray and operatory set-up for all procedures.
* Support patient charting for doctors at a proficient level.
* Ability to train others to execute patient handoffs and monitor patient flow within the practice.
* Follow OSHA regulations and Aspen safety requirements, including compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
* Take dental radiographs (X-rays).
* Provide patients with instructions for oral care following all dental treatment procedures.
* Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
* Complete denture soft relines and manufactures temporary crowns.
* Monitor and aid in management of laboratory cases.
* Perform quality intraoral health scan of patients under 5 minutes.
* Understanding of clear aligner process with the ability to articulate and teach.
* Ability to take quality impressions and bite registrations.
* Perform additional expanded functions based on certification(s) to support patient care (coronal polishing, restorative functions, etc.).
* Ensures emergency kits and oxygen tanks are maintained.
* Ability to order and maintain supplies in accordance with practice budget.
* Perform various office tasks as necessary.
