Core Responsibilities:
The Maine CDC's Oral Health Program is seeking a Planning and Research Associate I to join our team. This position will work under the direction of the Program Manager to provide data support, contract development and oversight, as needed, and support Maine CDC's oral health priorities in its response to the impact of COVID 19 on the oral health status of Maine people. Providing data collection and analysis is critical for the program and Maine CDC to fully understand the impacts of COVID 19, as well as the successes of its response activities.

As a key member of the Oral Health Program team, your core responsibilities will include:
• Perform complex assignments in the collecting, analyzing, and presentation of data for policy development, planning, and regulatory activities.
• Respond to technical requests for data and information from the Bureau of Health, Maine CDC, other state agencies, and the federal government by identifying and compiling relevant data for specific areas in need of oral health care services.
• Produce core reports and coordinate specific data analyses by applying knowledge of statistical methods in order to promote effective planning while maintaining ongoing data collection projects necessary for programmatic and policy development needs.
• Provide technical assistance to communities, oral health care providers, and oral health care facilities.
• Establish and maintain supportive working relationships with other agencies within the Department, other departments, external partners, and stakeholders.
• Design, coordinate, and produce graphic displays in order to provide quantitative information for use in planning, policy development, and management of programs while ensuring adherence to federal requirements.
• Work with Program Manager on budgetary needs, federal grant funding opportunities, and contract management.
Minimum Qualifications:
A six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience providing a knowledge of the principles of research and planning.
Preferred candidates will also have:
o Experience supporting public health research, evaluation, or program planning, including data collection, analysis, and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
o Ability to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously, manage timelines, and work effectively with data systems, analytic tools, and standard office software.
o Ability to build and sustain working collaborative relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders, such as oral health providers, healthcare professionals, community organizations, and other state and government agencies to support planning, implementation, and evaluation of oral health programs.

Experience and qualifications for success
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Fisheries and Wildlife Science, Ecology, or a related field.
Three (3) years of relevant experience performing environmental, ecological, or natural resources studies, surveys, or projects in the private or public sector.
Experience performing environmental compliance inspections and reporting for active construction projects, including familiarity with the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Construction General Permit.
Applicants who are unable to show professional wetland delineation experience will not be considered.
Demonstrated experience with federal and state laws, such as the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and Regulations, the Clean Water Act, the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act, the federal Endangered Species Act, and other federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Technical writing experience associated with the summarization of site conditions and the preparation of permit applications.
Familiarity with GPS devices.
Ability to travel to a location, hike and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, while carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
Able to conduct mobilizations with overnight stays in the New England Area. Occasional deployments of up to 1-2 weeks at a time.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Additionally, incumbent ensures the technical aspects of the DNA Analysis program(s) are in compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation standards and the Quality Assurance Standards (QAS) for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories established by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)and are responsible for ensuring seamless unit operations including all aspects of forensic biology casework from case intake through lab processing and communication with customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs laboratory analyses of physical evidence in one or more of the specialty disciples of the FSL, regularly demonstrates proficiency in assigned forensic specialty; participates in and completes externally administrated proficiency tests; demonstrates competency and on-going proficiency in laboratory processing, interpretation, comparisons, statistical analysis and technical review as authorized by the technical leader; ensures methodologies and procedures used are compliant with established standards, and is responsible for quality assurance and accreditation compliance activities. Evaluates existing DNA methods and proposes new analytical procedures for improved operations; and ensures that all associated quality standards pertaining to ISO 17025 and FBI QAS based accreditation status are being performed and met.
Prepares written scientific examination reports and affidavits to correlate with laboratory results; inspects equipment and tools that are utilized for testing and to determine if they are compliant with prescribed operating and safety standards, regulations and guidelines including manufacturer's specifications on computerized scientific equipment; interprets graphs, charts, and mathematical formulas. Completes an advance research project and/or performs a vital role in the overall operation of the unit by independently performing a high level task such as training and/or overseeing training of scientists, developing and validating new processes and procedures, or resolving common technical concerns relative to forensic biology operations; perform biology/DNA analyses on physical evidence; interprets test results, conducts comparisons, develops conclusions and statistical analyses and prepares final reports/results; completes technical review of peers work. Drafts detailed reports of final analysis and results including inventory of DNA examined and submits reports to the appropriate investigative agency and/or authority or collaboratively with other employees.

Weston is seeking a passionate and driven Environmental Scientist or Geoscientist to support our long-standing contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6. This role is ideal for someone committed to protecting public health and the environment through meaningful field and office-based work. As a key member of our project team, you'll lead and support environmental field projects, contributing to site assessments, emergency response, and remedial oversight. Your work will directly support cleaner, safer communities.
Location: Frisco, TX
Expected Outcomes:
* Conduct environmental sampling of soil, water, and hazardous waste
* Perform air monitoring (limited sampling; familiarity is valued)
* Coordinate laboratory sample shipments and evaluate analytical results
* Write technical reports, including site investigations and Phase II ESAs
* Prepare field documentation, daily logs, and support planning documents
* Participate in an on-call emergency response rotation
* Determine appropriate data collection methods and manage databases
* Travel throughout EPA Region 6 for field assignments (3-5 days for responses, up to 2 weeks for planned work)
* Calibrate and maintain multimedia monitoring and sampling equipment
* Use PPE (Levels D-A) to safely enter potentially hazardous areas
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related field
* 2-5 years of experience conducting environmental investigations
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (field equipment, PPE, etc.)
* Valid U.S. driver's license and eligibility to work in the United States
* Willingness to travel throughout EPA Region 6 (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana)
* Willingness to participate in emergency response rotations (approximately one week per month)
* Strong communication and documentation skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
