Job Description
Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of on-call Direct Support Professional for their residential services division. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. Direct Support Professionals are responsible for the delivery of services with JCDS. Initial review of candidates will begin July 1, 2025. Periodic review of candidates will occur until September 30, 2025.

Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision; provides crisis interventions, including physical intervention and restraint to ensure the safety of individuals; monitors and/or administers medication as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists individual and family members to identify strategies or treatment options and participates in the development and modification of plans to regain ability to make independent choices and promote coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers, serving as the main point of contact.
Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.
Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
Candidate must be able to successfully complete criminal and motor vehicle background screenings, which includes KDADS required screenings and registry checks.
Preferred Job Requirements:
One year of related experience working in a human services field is preferred.
Education/Experience Substitutions:
Education may be substituted for experience.

MHDDTs who obtain their CPR, CNA and CMA certifications are required to attend continuing education classes to maintain their certification (s). All staff at KNI must stay current with policies, procedures, and protocols, proper lifting techniques, and all other training needed to keep KNI in regulatory compliance. Work locations on campus between homes may be changed as staffing needs change. Previous caregiving or direct support experience, ideally in a residential or therapeutic setting
Experience working with clients with aggressive or disruptive behaviors
Training in crisis intervention or de-escalation techniques
Shifts & Schedules Available:
Front-Half (Sun-Wed)
Midweek (Wed/Thu/Fri)
Back-Half (Wed-Sat)
Days: 7am-7pm or 8am-8pm
Some duties:
Assisting or fully supporting with personal care needs (bathing, toileting, grooming)
Teaching and supporting daily living skills (cooking, cleaning, laundry)
Transporting clients in company van
Administering medications
Supporting clients at their Day Service programs
Charting/documenting data using computer system

Must be physically able to evacuate individuals in the event of an emergency and be willing and able to intervene in the event of a physical conflict.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid class C driver's license is required, along with a driving record acceptable to Cottonwood's insurance provider. Experience in working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred. Must have the physical ability to stand for long periods of time, lift and carry at least 25 lbs., endure some physical exertion (assisting with transfers, wet mopping etc.), and be able to evacuate consumers in the event of an emergency. Must be able to intervene in the event of a physical conflict and provide assistance with personal care. Must have basic computer skills, be able to access Cottonwood email, and complete data entry. A valid class C driver's license is required, along with a driving record acceptable to Cottonwood's insurance provider. Must be able to pass all required background checks and drug screen.
