Youth Care Professional III Summary: The Youth Care Professional III delivers relationship-based, competence centered, and trauma informed solutions to youth and families to help them reach their full potential. This position mentors and trains Youth Care Professional I staff and performs shift charge responsibilities. The Youth Care Professional III functions with independence and can be depended upon for resolution of more complex issues. Essential Job functions Engage youth and families in trust-based, productive relationships to help them prepare for transitions, interact in the community, and promote respect and independence. Maintain vigilance and ratio to ensure safety of residents in accordance with agency and funder requirements. Provide support services such as mentoring, emotional support, life skills training, and personal care to children. Execute after school and weekend activities. Accompany children on outings; transport youth to and from home time and appointments. Complete and maintain documentation in medical record system and daily logs to meet program requirements. Supervise residents through trauma-informed approaches according to established program standards. Respond appropriately to resident emergency and safety issues/situations, in compliance with agency and regulatory mandated reporting protocols. Apply appropriate emergency techniques such as Heart saver as needed. Recognize dysregulated youth behavior and effectively apply the continuum of crisis prevention and intervention through verbal and non-verbal de-escalation skills to reduce risk. This may include the use of protective interventions and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) approved physical restraints. Build professional relationships that support the individual development and success of residents; foster a safe, caring and supportive environment that promotes growth, skill development, and positive outcomes for residents. Youth Care Professional III Additionally/Alternately: Develop and execute treatment and behavior management plans designed to assist youth and their families to achieve their goals and objectives. Manage youth and family activities, within an individual or group dynamic. Maintain a clean and welcoming living environment where youth are encouraged to learn and practice daily living skills such as household chores and laundry. Mentor and train Youth Care Professional I staff. Maintain a thorough awareness of all procedures relating to emergencies. Complete and maintain documentation in medical record system and daily logs to meet program requirements. Oversee the paperwork of staff. Provide life skills and social skills training for youth and families. Serve as an adult role model for youth and families in all behaviors including communication, hygiene, appearance, management of self, response to stress and challenges, and positive relationships with others. Manage special team projects. Perform a wide variety of support tasks including transportation, as required. Perform shift charge responsibilities. While this job description covers many aspects of the role, employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Shares information with supervisor or other administrative staff in regard to problems or concerns that occur during their shift. Works with and helps residents maintain the upkeep of their personal rooms. Coordinates and participates in resident's recreational activities. Respects and maintains resident confidentiality and demonstrates a caring, positive attitude toward all residents (as per respect policy), staff, family members, guests and service providers. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required by the agency. Work as a member of the residential team for each resident and give relevant input for treatment team meetings and Continued Stayed Reviews. Provides safe transporting of residents when needed. Performs any other duties necessary for the effective operation of the program. Qualifications CLS 1: Minimum of High School diploma or GED and ability to demonstrate verbal and written skills necessary to carry out services for the success of the program. Completes basic documentation in the resident file with regard to any psychiatric concerns, medical concerns, progress, or anything else deemed as significant. Ensures that daily tasks and assignments are completed as directed by the Residential Services Coordinator or Supervisor on site. This includes assisting with the preparation of resident's rooms prior to admission to the program, helping with the orientation of new residents moving into the program and assisting with the discharge and transfer of residents when needed. Completes rounds at least 4 times per shift in an effort to monitor the program and intervene when necessary to settle any potential problems or disputes between residents; this includes updates on the daily census check if needed. Works with Overnight security to ensure the safety and well-being of the resident (i.e., observation of the building and grounds, enforcing visitor's hours, ensuring the doors are locked at 9:00pm each night, restricting unwanted visitors and monitoring of the security camera's etc.). Shares information with supervisor or other administrative staff in regard to problems or concerns that occur during their shift. Works with and helps residents maintain the upkeep of their personal rooms. Coordinates and participates in resident's recreational activities. Respects and maintains resident confidentiality and demonstrates a caring, positive attitude toward all residents (as per respect policy), staff, family members, guests and service providers. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required by the agency. Work as a member of the residential team for each resident and give relevant input for treatment team meetings and Continued Stayed Reviews. Provides safe transporting of residents when needed. Performs any other duties necessary for the effective operation of the program. Qualifications CLS 1: Minimum of High School diploma or GED and ability to demonstrate verbal and written skills necessary to carry out services for the success of the program. At least one-year of experience in a residential setting working with people in various stages of recovery from mental illness preferred. Valid New York State driver's license that meets qualifications set by agency's clean driver record policy is preferred. Must be at least Eighteen (18) years of age. CLS 2: The same requirements as above, however additionally, valid New York State driver's license that meets qualifications set by agency's clean driver record policy is required.
