1948

Stephen Richard Quarles – 1948 – ????

1951

Quarles married Vera Bullock, who died in 1951.

1952

Quarles then married Ruth Brett on 21 December 1952; they had one child, a daughter.

1953

After rising to full professor and dean at Dillard, Quarles relocated in 1953 to Morgan State College (now University) in Baltimore, Maryland and remained there for the rest of his academic career.

1961

He followed this success with a scholarly work on black participation in an even earlier conflict, The Negro in the American Revolution (1961). However, the Civil War era remained Quarles’s particular interest; at least three more of his published works focused on that era of American history.

1968

Charles Quarles, Louis’ brother, dies in 1968.

1979

Attorney Jim Urdan created the original Partnership Agreement for the merger of Quarles, Herriott, Clemons, Teschner & Noelke (45 lawyers) and Brady, Tyrrell, Cotter & Cutler (25 lawyers), although the two offices don't share one space until 1979.

1996

Benjamin Quarles died in Baltimore in 1996 of a heart attack.

2001

The parish of Holkham, in which Quarles is situated, had in 2001 census, a population of 236.

2009

Quarles & Brady is named among the “60 Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother and the ABA Journal for the ninth year since 2009, and is listed among the “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” by Woman Inc. in the magazine’s inaugural ranking.

2020

Quarles & Brady receives 10 recognitions as a 2020 “Best Law Firm” by Best Lawyers and United States News Media Group in the National Tier 1 category; and was named “Law Firm of the Year” in Franchise Law for the second year in a row.
