Door to Hope company history timeline

1971

In 1971, Door to Hope opened its doors with a residential treatment center for women in need who were struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.

1983

New Beginning Center, located in Garland, was established in 1983 by the members of the Garland Service League and initially provided women’s counseling services.

1985

In 1985, when a two-parent family fell into homelessness, they would be split up, as there was no one equipped to serve the entire family unit.

Both Steve and John served on the founding board of Door of Hope, which began sheltering five families in 1985.

Hope’s Door, located in Plano, was established in 1985 as the result of a local needs assessment study commissioned by the Junior League of Plano.

1989

The shelter was opened in March 1989.

1998

In 1998, an adjacent property was purchased to be transformed into a children's centre.

The New Beginning Center emergency shelter opened in 1998 which also added a fully staffed 24-hour crisis hotline.

2003

In 2003, Door of Hope officially opened its doors, celebrating its first church service in the new building on November 29.

2014

In 2014, Lake Avenue Church invited Door of Hope to turn one of their homes into a third housing site equipped to serve five single mothers and their children.

2016

In 2016, the organizations merged to form Hope’s Door New Beginning Center and continue to provide services in Dallas, Garland, Plano, and the surrounding cities in North Texas.

2018

In 2018, an innovative Homelessness Prevention Program was launched, expanding capacity to serve more families offsite, rather than in its transitional housing facilities.

2021

In 2021, Beacon Housing invited Door of Hope to operate another transitional housing program at one of their homes to serve another 8 families.
