Dual Invest ASA company history timeline

1894

The Central Supply Association, originally formed in 1894, represented wholesalers from western Pennsylvania to the Rockies and from the Canadian border to Tennessee.

1904

First geothermal power plant, 1904, Larderello, Italy.

1951

The American Institute of Wholesalers, originally formed in 1951, was a federation of local regional associations from different areas of the country.

1969

With the two approvals, the American Supply Association was officially incorporated in Illinois in December of 1969.

1970

The Act amended the Geothermal Steam Act of 1970 to modify how royalties are calculated, how land is leased, and how federal income from geothermal development is distributed.

1977

In 1977, looking to expand the value proposition for the national association, ASA established the formation of an educational endowment to ensure that the members of the association would have sufficient resources to provide educational and training programs for its member’s employees.

1980

A hot dry rock geothermal facility is created and tested in Fenton Hill, New Mexico, with financial assistance from DOE. The facility generates electricity two years later, in 1980.

1987

Cooper, 52, became the head of the ISFA Corporation in Tampa, which operates Invest, in 1987.

2005

According to the United States Department of Interior's Bureau of Land Management, geothermal energy generated over 14,800 GWh of electricity in 2005, enough power to supply the annual needs of 1.3 million homes.

2007

Beginning in 2007 the association refocused its programming to four core values: education, business intelligence, advocacy and a more streamlined networking approach that would differ from what was being offered by the buying groups.

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 which includes the Advanced Geothermal Research and Development Act of 2007(link is external) provided authorization and direction for DOE's geothermal research activities.

2008

It wasn’t until 2008 that ASA abandoned the tradeshow as the primary funding source for the association and shifted the primary focus of that annual event to more of an educational conference for the membership.

2009

Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, the Geothermal Technologies Office awarded $368.2 million to 149 geothermal projects in 38 states and the District of Columbia.

2010

In FY 2010, the DOE Geothermal Technologies Office contributed $786,000 to the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program and $94,000 to the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program for geothermal projects.

2013

In 2013, the Desert Peak project completes an 8-month, multi-stage stimulation of an existing but underperforming well, successfully validating fluid injection and stimulation increases to levels within the magnitude of a commercial well, and dramatically increasing flow rate.

2018

During the Winter Leadership Meeting in 2018, volunteers and leaders were presented with the discussions had by a think tank comprised of industry visionaries.
