Dubuque Symphony Orchestra company history timeline

1963

The first performance by the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra was held at Terence Donahue Hall at Clarke College on October 20, 1963.

1966

The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Auxiliary was formed in 1966 to assist with the financial support of the symphony.

1985

After 26 years as conductor he retired in 1985.

Under his directorship, the DSO grew in size and prestige through Doctor Mahmoud’s retirement in 1985.

1986

Nicholas Palmer was named the DSO’s second Music Director and Conductor in 1986.

1999

Maestro Palmer was named Conductor Emeritus of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra in 1999 in recognition of his service to the orchestra.
