Overview The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing construction phase testing and inspections at on-going construction projects, which includes providing accurate notes and descriptions of all field activities while reporting to their respective supervisor daily. Engineering Technicians will also be required to provide accurate site inspection reports (SIRs), daily summary emails to their immediate supervisor, and provide accurate project documentation. Responsibilities Conduct site visits, testing, and inspection services at construction job sites. Conduct laboratory testing on soil samples, such as, physical index properties, permeability and moisture-density relationship. Assist geotechnical engineers to complete site investigation activities such as soil borings and/or test pit excavations, field permeability/percolation tests, and other supporting tasks as deemed necessary to maintain the geotechnical department operation. Pickup and drop-off samples to laboratories. Reviewing and referencing project documents including site-civil, structural, architectural plans, geotechnical reports, and topographic surveys. Conduct structural steel and steel reinforcement inspections. Perform footing subgrade inspections to review soils composition and bearing capacity and/or determine depth of overexcavation for unsuitable subgrade soils; Earthwork oversight (monitoring overexcavation of unsuitable materials and compaction testing of structural fill material); Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors and project manager. Maintain the instruments in calibrated condition, collecting and reporting data to the manager, managing lab supply/inventory, and assisting in preparation of reports/presentations. Ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in engineering or construction related field preferred. 0-4 years' experience in construction inspection field or laboratory testing. Valid driver's license. Ability to maintain and operate personal and/or company vehicle. Must have hands-on experience with metric and English tools. American Concrete Institute (ACI) concrete field-testing technician certificate, accredited construction inspection/materials testing certificates, OSHA 40, OSHA 10, and/or American Portable Nuclear Gauge Association (APNGA) gauge training preferred. Must have hands-on experience with metric and English tools. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Software including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to understand general computer commands and learn supporting software for entering field data, laboratory data, timesheets, etc. Independent and critical thinking abilities. Self-starter who can work independently and with team members. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspections of site plans. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to the following work environment: The field inspections/visits are dictated by construction schedules and could include early morning or late evening timing at the project site. The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. The employee is expected to perform the majority of their work week outdoors. Outdoor work frequently includes walking on uneven surfaces in all types of weather conditions and may have exposure to animals, insects, plants, etc. The employee is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. EEO SUMMARY The Engineering Technician will be in charge of independently producing engineering design plans for public works project and land development, utilizing AutoCAD software. They will be responsible for working with an engineering design team from initial concepts to final plan production. They will also draft various sketches, plans, and exhibits using CAD. RESPONSIBILITIES Technical Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Lead and engineering team. Drafting grading, drainage, utility, street frontage improvements, and stormwater management plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D grading feature lines and utility pipe networks. Preparing drawings per company and public agency CAD standards and project-dependent CAD specifications. EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE 0-2 years of experience in a position requiring intensive AutoCAD/Civil 3D Experience drafting on-site and off-site improvement drawings for land development projects. General knowledge of computers, Microsoft office, Adobe, Internet, etc. Experience with BlueBeam a plus. Overview The Dynamic Intern is responsible for the due diligence investigations as well as preliminary design and engineering analyses of various types of retail, commercial, industrial and residential site layouts throughout regions where we do business. Responsibilities Review municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property. Prepare Site Investigation and Due Diligence Reports to include the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines. Prepare Conceptual Site Plans. Prepare preliminary Grading Plans and Design. Design of Stormwater Management and Stormwater Conveyance Systems, Utility Systems and Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Design Plans. Prepare technical reports including drainage, sanitary sewer and site investigation reports. Prepare written correspondence to outside agencies, client, attorney, contractor, etc. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering at a College/University, or pursuing a degree in a related field with relevance to Civil Engineering. 0-2 years' experience in Civil Site Engineering (residential and/or commercial/industrial/office site design and permitting experience). Valid driver's license, valid personal insurance, & a personal vehicle to travel to various sites during a given work day (not the company will reimburse you for the miles traveled for the company). Ability to maintain and operate personal and/or company vehicle. Familiar with the use of AutoCAD to assist in the production of site plan drawings. General knowledge of Hydraulic and Stormwater Design Programs. Design and drafting capabilities. Grading and drainage design skills. General knowledge of the available mapping websites for due diligence and site investigation purposes. General knowledge of the following design tools for site engineering: Hydrology Software i.e. Hydraflow, HydroCAD, PondPack AutoCAD Civil 3D Hydraulic Software i.e. Hydraflow, StormCAD, Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) HEC-RAS Gravity Flow - Hydraulic Analysis, Manning's Equation Proficient in the use of Microsoft Software including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project. General knowledge of Bluebeam Revu and/or Adobe to prepare design document markups. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Independent and critical thinking abilities.
