Qualifications:
Child Development Associate (CDA) or state equivalency
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field
Experience teaching in a classroom setting

Six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education, OR
Two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Hold and maintain a Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (specific program to be determined by WCPSS Special Education Services) and maintain that certification through the proper renewal process, adhering to all timelines; CPI training will be provided through Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), if needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum.
Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturity.
Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
Establishes and maintains standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records.
Provides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school/district policies, goals, and objectives.
Communicates with parents through a variety of means.
Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress and interprets the school program.
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays such as bulletin boards, interest centers, etc.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which s/he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records.
Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
Participates in faculty and/or district committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree including all courses to meet credential requirements. Valid North Carolina license in the grade levels and areas assigned.

Definition Under general supervision, provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Work involves developing and implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) in classroom settings that are compatible with the student's age and developmental level. The Exceptional Children (EC) teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting materials, and designing activities to assist EC students to develop appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills and to meet their IEP goals. The teacher is responsible for monitoring student's progress and for maintaining EC records in compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities • Responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction in a variety of styles to help students with disabilities learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development as well as aid and enhance progress toward individual goals. • Develops and implement an instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals and the student's Individual Education Program. • Is responsible for the development of IEPs for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed. • Provides direct special education instruction to identified students. • Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects up to 10 pounds. • Must have the auditory, visual, and physical skills necessary to manage students and the classroom in a manner that assures reasonable safety to students under supervision.
Minimum Training and Experience • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Special Education from a Regionally Accredited College or University. • Must be licensed in Special Education/General Curriculum (88091) or eligible for licensure. Classification: Exempt
