Perform event stand-by operations including sporting events, community festivals and other events with significant number of people.
Respond to hazardous material incidents at the first responder level, function in other uncommon situations. Perform emergency operations during natural disasters and catastrophic events.
Understand stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being, understand body substance isolation and patients' rights of privacy under HIPAA.
Can interact and assist in an appropriate and professional manner with a variety of outside agencies and personnel including medical facility staff such as physicians, nurses, aides, clerical staff, adult and child protective services, social workers, morticians, medical examiners, law enforcement, fire/rescue, and communication personnel.
Requirements:
General Knowledge of EMS operations, operation of ambulances and proper use of EMS equipment.
Ability to learn through training, using a wide variety of EMS methods
Ability to readily acquire knowledge of the road/street systems and general physical layout of assigned communities.
Obtain necessary skills including opening and maintaining an airway, ventilating a patient, administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and utilizing certification level appropriate medications and defibrillator devices. Providing trauma care including assisting in controlling hemorrhage, treatment of shock, bandaging wound, immobilizing injured extremities, necks, or spines.
Working Environment/Conditions:
EMS operations occur 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in all weather conditions. Ambulances and EMS personnel must be prepared to respond at a moment's notice and maintain viable field operations until the situation is resolved, or the crew is appropriately relived or replaced.
EMS personnel operate in uncontrolled arena of the public. As an EMS crewmember, one must be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to conform a wide variety of patient types, behaviors, and situations. Safety, professionalism, and compassion are three critical personal traits necessary to be successful in the EMS operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary duties of the EMT include, but are not limited to, the following, and are in addition to any duties requested by KCEAA:
Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
Drive ambulance or other vehicles to specified location, following instructions from emergencymedical dispatcher.
Assist in rescuing victims as needed and transports sick and injured patients to appropriate treatment center.
Operate equipment, such as electrocardiograms (EKG), external defibrillators, or bag valve mask resuscitators, in advanced life support environments.

Decontaminate ambulance interior following treatment of patient with known or suspected infectious disease and report incident as required.
Completes appropriates documentation of patient's treatment into KCEAA's E-PCR (electronic patient care reporting) software.
Follows daily, weekly and periodic inspection and inventory of supplies, vehicle, station and related equipment as needed or as directed by KCEAA policy and entering proper documentation of the inspection and inventory.
Comfort and reassure patients.
Attend training classes to maintain certification licensure, keep abreast of new developments in the field of emergency services, or maintain existing knowledge.

The minimum qualifications for EMT include:

Successful completion of college or technical school EMT program.

Working Conditions
This is a mission critical position. The employee is required to report to work when there is adverse weather, on holidays and on short notice. The EMT must be available for work on any shift as requested by KCEAA. The position may require work beyond the scheduled shift as requested and/or until properly relieved or released. While performing the duties of this job, the EMT may work in outside weather conditions all times of year, near moving mechanical parts and in conditions that could include exposure to fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to extreme cold and heat. The EMT may also be exposed to blood, saliva and other body substances, as well as irrational, combative patients and bystanders. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the employee to lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 150 pounds independently and 300 pounds or more with assistance. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, operate equipment with tools and controls, climb and balance, stoop, kneel and crouch and occasionally maneuver through challenging obstacles. This position also requires the employee have finger dexterity and manual dexterity. Multilimb coordination is required as well as arm-hand steadiness. **PURPOSE** **AND** **SCOPE:** Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment. Supports the organization commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities, including those related to patient satisfaction and actively participates in process improvement activities that enhance the likelihood that patients will achieve the organization Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).
**PRINCIPAL** **DUTIES** **AND** **RESPONSIBILITIES:**
**Patient Related**
Education:
+ Assist other health care members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures where appropriate - Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), and regarding disease process/access.
Treatment:
+ Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment.
+ Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and perform administration of heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
+ Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight and perform vascular access evaluation pre- treatment
+ Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD).
+ Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
+ Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy.
+ Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment - document.
+ Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures and evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access - standing & sitting blood pressure
+ Obtain Hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
+ Evaluate the patient prior to discharge.
+ Perform and record Pre and Post dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
+ Responsible for calculating and entry of individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal; treatment time; and UF modeling as prescribed.
+ Responsible for ensuring appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits, (NVL) 160.
+ Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
+ Responsible for accurate documentation of information related to patient treatment including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and, if applicable, progress notes.
+ Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to the registered nurse or supervisor.
+ Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks according to facility policy. Report any change or unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor.
+ Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status and document patients' response to intervention.
+ Evaluate patients' vascular access during treatment including arterial and venous monitoring pressures, provide appropriate intervention as needed, document and report any unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor.
+ Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
+ Ensure that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to facility policy.
+ Prepare, organize, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
+ Monitors patients performing self-care under the supervision of RN.
**Staff Related**
+ Assists in training of applicable direct patient care staff on appropriate programs under the supervision of a nurse.
**Education/Communication:**
+ Follows all organization business policies, procedures and systems incorporated into training, including compliance with ethical business practices
+ Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics - ensure all areas are safe and clean.
+ Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
+ Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document where appropriate and perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing including Pressure Holding (PHT).
+ Initiate Solution Delivery System (SDS) system.
**RECORD KEEPING:**
+ Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
+ Enters all treatment data into the designated clinical application in an accurate and timely manner.
+ Review treatment sheets for completeness, ensure nursing signatures are documented, and ensure
omitted entries are completed or corrected by appropriate staff.
+ Prepare initial patient chart for admission and compile paperwork for appropriate placement in chart.
+ Prepare/print lab requisitions for prescribed or stat Lab specimens according to laboratory destination.
+ Collect, label, appropriately prepare and store lab samples according required laboratory specifications.
+ Ensure collection of lab specimens by appropriate lab courier.
**INFECTION CONTROL:**
+ Assists in collecting information for infection control audits.
+ Supports staff and patient Adherence to infection control practices.
+ Follows infection control Policies and Procedures
+ Participates in and reinforces infection control education of patients and families under the direction of the CM or designee as allowed by state law.
**TRANSITIONAL CARE UNIT:**
+ Follows all newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis and coordinating their transitional dialysis care
+ Reinforces all education and care related matters as it relates to the new patient as allowed by state law
+ Liaisons with appropriate FKC staff members to provide the best patient experience including making sure all disciplines are scheduled to see patient according to plan.
+ Assists in assuring patient understanding or home dialysis products, benefits of home and how home dialysis can work for them.
+ Sets and preforms a treatment on all machines used in the transitional care unit.
+ Assist in assuring patient understanding of treatment options including demonstration of the peritoneal dialysis set-up.
+ Assists with coordination of transition to patient's modality choice.
+ Assists with supply ordering and inventory for TCU
