**Description**
**JOB DESCRIPTION:** Provides quality care to the patients receiving US Scan, diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. Communicates patient needs and responses through appropriate verbal and written correspondence. Ensures documentation is complete and accurate regarding all aspects of patient care. Properly operates imaging and specialty equipment. Keeps abreast of uses of various medical devices. Ensures that patients have been prepared for procedures. Verifies that rooms are adequately stocked and periodically checks inventories of emergency supplies. Provides quality care to patients during procedures. Assists with patient and family education. May support or assist in research and related activities. Demonstrates an adequate knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology. Provides more complex technical care necessary to meet identified patient needs. Assists with performing and planning multiple diagnostic procedures in appropriate time sequence. Acts as a resource for students and junior techs. Performs related responsibilities as required.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:** Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound. Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience with one (1) year in US. They must be RDMS or ARRT certified. Advanced certification as a Registered Vascular Tech preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium):** 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
**ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:** Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. $37.50 - $56.25Major Responsibilities: Positioning of patients and proper selection of technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, making use of any necessary immobilization techniques. 1) Position, transfer and immobilize patients for procedures, ensuring optimal quality exams are obtained. 2) Operate portable ultrasound equipment as required, to perform portable procedures throughout the hospital 3) Assist physicians with various recommendations for obtaining optimal studies, by suggesting selections for technical factors for procedures. Documentation of Department records (e.g., inventory of supplies, patient statistics) to ensure adequate supplies and proper patient records 1) Maintain correct patient records. Assemble daily patient schedules and prepare patient folders, to enable the Department to properly preserve patient records. 2) Prepare Ultrasound rooms, ensuring that necessary equipment and supplies are available, before performing procedures 3) Know and operate hospital computer systems as required. Responsible for securing pertinent medical history from the patient, for each procedure, in order to provide the radiologist with adequate information, before film interpretation 1) Obtain pertinent medical history to ensure that the radiologist will have required information, explaining why the diagnostic test is being done. 2) Work closely with the radiologist when requested, to ensure an optimal outcome for each procedure. 3) Maintain positive attitude when dealing with a patient, fellow employee or any personnel encountered during daily activities. Complies with established hospital safety standards, to ensure patient and staff safety at all times. 1) Maintain annual CPR certification to further ensure safety of patients in the Department 2) Operate all equipment in a safe manner, according to Hospital and Department policies and procedures on safety 3) Uses Universal Precautions, protecting self and others from bodily fluid exposure Keep abreast of current skills and developments in the field of ultrasound Instruct and help students or fellow technologists orienting in ultrasound Education/Experience Required: -Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and eligible for ARDMS registry that provides minimum of 1 year of clinical scanning. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Possess high degree of technical knowledge to perform specialized ultrasound studies with little assistance from radiologists -ARDMS Registered or ARDMS registry eligible if within 24 months of graduation from an approved sonography programscanning. -CPR certification Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to adjust to flexible hours at minimal notice Ability to work odd hours (late hours on-call) Ability to respond to emergency call back in minimal time *Ability to stand for long periods of time *Ability to constantly view video display screen during exam *Ability to perform lifting activities related to patients This position can recognize needs and behaviors of all age groups. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. Job Responsibilities
* Operates modality specific technical equipment related to patient care imaging, image processing, image transmission, image archiving, and computerized electronic medical records. Updates the electronic medical records through: Order Entry, Exam Scheduling, Exam Check-in, Begin and End Exams, Exam Verification, Exam Merging, and Image Rejection. Ensures accuracy of billing for radiology procedures.
* Provides radiologists and physicians with patient history relative to exam being performed and obtaining informed consent. Assists radiologists, as required, in the administration of contrast media and/or radioisotopes during exams. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, sedation/anesthesia personnel and all staff members to ensure a safe outcome for the patient.
* Participates in the department and modality specific quality improvement initiatives, including ACR accreditation. Consistently demonstrates proficiency in performing radiologic examinations using appropriate standardized protocols to produce the highest quality images, evaluating images for technical quality prior to sending to picture archiving and communication system for interpretation by radiologists.
* Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages. Includes family/caregiver in patient care and provides effective education appropriate for the learning needs of patient and family.
* Uses critical thinking principles in making decisions which lead to desired outcomes while participating in the achievement of organizational and department goals by following hospital and departmental policies. Continually demonstrates service excellence behaviors.
* Attends and/or completes all system and department educational requirements which include mandatory CBTs and annual competencies.

Description
* Operates vascular US equipment to produce scans and physiologic equipment to produce plethysmographic and Doppler waveforms and segmental pressure data for diagnostic procedures in the Vascular Lab.
* Operates other medical equipment as needed. Provides quality patient care to patients having vascular procedures. May participate in more complex procedures.
* Communicates and explains various procedures to patients and families. Processes required paper work, and has knowledge of all supplies, and stocks rooms.
* Assists in training vascular staff and students. Responsible for clinical care of patient. Assesses patient's condition and vascular status to determine and perform appropriate exam and obtain specific diagnostic results.
* Performs vascular procedures and analyzes data with minimal physician supervision. Sets up procedure rooms including equipment and supplies in a comfortable environment for patients. Obtains, films, and records optimum vascular US scans and physiologic exams; analyzes relevant data prior to interpretation by Vascular Lab physician.
* Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology as evidenced in the performance of examinations.
* Uses investigative skills to evaluate appropriateness of physician's orders in relation to patient's vascular condition and clinical indication.
* Provides physician with oral or written preliminary report to aid in patient diagnosis and management.
* Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation. Assists with patient/family education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Graduate of an accredited school of ultrasound technology, vascular technology or a cardiovascular program.
* Two years of ultrasound experience with at least one of those years in an area of vascular technology.
* Current registry certificate from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) ( RVT, RVS or RT (VS) required).
* Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
