RS&H is seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Environmental Stewardship and Resilience (ESR) market segment!
As a member of the ESR group, this individual will lead environmental compliance activities, direct junior staff and help other engineering project managers and professionals identify and resolve environmental compliance challenges associated with large building and infrastructure programs as well as ongoing client operations. This individual will be part of the ESR market segment providing environmental stewardship, sustainability and resilience planning, permitting, and consulting services to Aviation, Transportation, DoD, Municipal and private clients nationally.
The candidate must have a strong understanding of environmental regulations affecting a variety of facilities with specialty industrial operations (e.g., airports, ports, transportation, and DoD facilities) and have a broad skill set and demonstrated experience in the following areas: Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Clean Air Act (CAA) regulations, Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) requirements and associated state programs regulations and requirements. Additionally, experience in emerging contaminant (i.e., PFAS) planning, investigation, regulatory negotiations associated with redevelopment, the ability to collaborate with redevelopment planners and engineers, owners representatives and associated contractors will be a strong area of focus.

THE PERSON
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor of science in geology, environmental studies, ecology, natural resources, or related field. We prefer a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in environmental consulting. Depending on the candidate's background experience with ecological surveys, NEPA documents, and air permit applications is desired. Familiarity with waterways permitting is a plus, as is familiarity with the MichiganEnvironmental and Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) environmental process. The candidate must meet, or be able to meet within six months MDOT pre-qualification requirements in either the ecological field or in hazardous materials assessments. The candidate must have some experience with a broad range of field investigations that may include wetland delineation, wetland and stream quality assessments, endangered species habitat assessments, hazardous materials surveys, and air compliance monitoring. Excellent written and oral communication skills, familiarity with standard office software packages, ArcGIS, GIS on-line applications. The right candidate must have the ability to work independently and as a team member is important.
Experience in either wetlands delineations using Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual, and applicable Regional Supplements We prefer a candidate that has familiarity with - Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States; and Wilhelm's and Masters' Floristic Quality Assessment (FQA) Program, or experience with ESA Screenings and Phase I ESAs is a MUST or be trainable to fulfill those task. Other desirable experience includes the ability to identify local/regional plant species, and to evaluate streams using Rosgen Stream Classifications (or be trained on it); and experience with asbestos and/or lead based paint investigations.
Our desired, well-rounded candidate must be able to prepare technical reports and assist with proposals. They will coordinate and communicate with clients, maintain schedules and project budgets, and assist with new staff training and development. Your work may include overnight travel within Michigan and neighboring states.
