As an Environmental Specialist IV, you will need functional and technical expertise and skills in areas of air, water and/or waste. In this role, you will run projects and programs of moderate complexity that require a specialized breadth of expertise!

Responsibilities/Expectations:
Develops, maintains and provides guidance on environmental processes/policies
Assesses environmental risk, provides recommendations to address risk and participates in or runs the approved course of action, including required regulatory documentation
Participates in environmental project planning and implementation, including scheduling, cost estimating, preparation of environmental impact assessments and reporting
Provides guidance and mentors others
Prepares and submits sophisticated applications to procure environmental permits, renewals, approvals, variances, and other authorizations and coordinate with company partners
Performs environmental compliance audits and due diligence investigations, as the need arises
Identifies environmental training needs and provides training
Develops, recommends and implements improvements for systems and practices in air, water, waste management and/or remediation activities for assigned areas
Prepares and submits all required compliance reports/certifications; develops and maintains documentation related to environmental compliance programs
Cultivates relationships between Williams and regulatory agencies
Interprets applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations and ensures compliance with such regulations

Your Opportunity
Stantec's Alaska environmental services, wetland (aquatic resources) group, is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist to support baseline environmental field surveys, reporting, and project permitting for our clients across diverse business sectors. The selected candidate will apply their interest in Alaskan ecology to be trained to complete field work, baseline and functional assessments, technical reports, and permitting on: wetlands, aquatic resources, vegetation, soils, streams, fish, birds, bats, wildlife, and endangered species. Experience with all of these specialties is not required; a candidate may only have experience on one or two but must be willing to learn the required technical skills. The selected candidate will be trained to complete aquatic resource delineations meeting agency requirements and to understand and help complete CWA Section 404 and 401 permits in Alaska and the western United States. The nuances of aquatic resource delineations will be explained and taught in order to become a competent aquatic resource delineator by knowing what a permitter requires in an application.
As an Environmental Scientist, you will work in a highly dynamic team environment with other biologists and ecologists, NEPA specialists, geologists, engineers, architects, environmental planners, and specialized regulatory permit experts.
This position will include opportunities for both field and office work. During the Alaskan winter it is primarily office based technical report writing mixed with GIS tasks. During the summer it is a mixture of field and office work. Summer field work may involve potential helicopter, boat, ATV or vehicle travel for up to two weeks at a time away from home. Field work is completed in teams with a technical field lead for safety and on the job training.
The position is a full-time, 12-month non-seasonal position, with regularly scheduled office hours in Anchorage. Part time remote work may be considered.

Education and Experience

Must be comfortable with computers and hand-held GPS units. Technical writing skills are necessary for this position. Data analysis skills and GIS experience or training including feature editing and map creation is preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:
* Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas-$54,000.00 - $75,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

This individual will serve a key function in providing site exploration activities including, but not limited to EHS and ESG Due Diligence; contaminated site investigation and remediation work; soil and groundwater sampling; vapor intrusion investigation; remedial investigation, design, implementation, and monitoring; pilot tests; data management, processing, and evaluation; and report preparation. Job Responsibilities
* Field work is required;
* Conduct EHS and ESG Due Diligence and deal support for a variety of legal, financial, and industrial clients;
* Participate in the identification and pursuit of new clients, develop additional work within an existing project, and attend business development meetings with new and existing clients;
* Assist with the coordination and execution of field investigations by logging borings, collecting and managing samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording field data;
* Perform air, soil, gas, groundwater sampling and remediation of contaminated properties;
* Prepare and manage standard logs and field forms documenting field investigations (including drilling logs, field investigation forms, and chain of custody logs) and remedial activities (including air monitoring data and daily reports and maps);
* Observe remediation and construction activities and monitor conformance with construction documents, remedial work plans, and health and safety plans;
* Assist clients with post-merger integration and compliance;
* Identify and communicate with supervisor on any problems encountered on project sites and implement solutions to both routine and complex field problems and accurately documents results;
* Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches;
* Assist with report preparation; and
* Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Science, or Sustainability;
* 5+ years of environmental consulting experience;
* Strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn;

APTIM is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist, but will consider an entry level candidate, in the Atlanta, GA area, on a full-time basis, in primary support of our stormwater compliance program. There will also be opportunities to participate in a variety of other environmental compliance support tasks, including but not limited to, solid waste, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, aboveground storage tanks, spill prevention, DOT and RCRA compliance, site assessment and remediation, and/or environmental data management. The successful candidate will be experienced in supporting an environmental team. This position will require travel to client facilities to conduct stormwater inspection/sampling activities, environmental compliance reviews and/or gather related data.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Collecting environmental samples in the field and preparing and preserving samples for delivery to an analytical laboratory.
Calibrating and using technical instruments.
Gain familiarity with site specific requirements through review of permit and planning documents, including the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) or State-Specific General Permit, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan, and any other applicable plans that have been prepared for the site.
Demonstrate ability to efficiently plan, organize and schedule field activities within required frequencies and timeframes including adherence to required communication with client to obtain approval for site access. This includes performing compliance activities at multiple sites on the same day and monitoring forecasted weather conditions to ensure successful completion of weather dependent field activities.
Field activities require travel to and from each site utilizing a personal vehicle and interfacing with client personnel at a facility level. Travel and flexibility of working hours is required to accommodate stormwater sampling requirements based on qualifying rain events.
Field activities may require working in all types of field conditions/weather, overtime, and on weekends.
Responsible for observing and complying with all safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
Work will consist of straightforward tasks using established procedures, with the potential for solving routine problems as encountered.
Develop and maintain records either manually or by computer method.
Perform field inspections, evaluate site conditions during sampling, and document results (visual and written). Provide detailed inspection reports documenting site conditions, work activities, and compliance with permit requirements.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a core science (such as geology, chemistry, physics, or biology), engineering, environmental science, or related area required.
Related work experience of at least 1-2 years but will consider entry level with appropriate degree and classroom background.
Travel and flexibility in working hours will be required to accommodate stormwater sampling requirements based on qualifying rain events.
Able to work independently in the field and in all types of field conditions/weather, including during rain events.
Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet project sampling requirements.
Detail oriented with strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong computer skills required. Must have a demonstrated strength and proficiency in Microsoft applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, SharePoint Online, etc. and the ability to learn other software applications.
