Epworth United Methodist Church was founded in 1850 as Granby Street Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
1890, a congregational meeting was held, which decided that a new sanctuary needed to be built to minister to the needs of the growing congregation and community.
On December 10, 1893, Epworth UMC opened its doors as Epworth Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church, South with 40 charter members.
And, on November 22, 1926, the church was again moved to 834 Morris Avenue (currently Concourse Village East), Bronx, N.Y.. Andrew served 21 years.
In 1926, a new building was built at the corner of what is now Andrew Jackson Way and O’Shaughnessy Drive.
The first worship service for Epworth Church was on February 3, 1952, at the Hope Valley High School.
Dan Sharpe became the Pastor in 1953.
The congregation continued to meet at the school until it moved into the first building on May 22, 1955.
In 1958, with Huntsville’s population undergoing tremendous growth, the Epworth congregation approved the building of a new church facility.
The pipe organ, built by the Aeolian Skinner Organ Company, was installed in 1959.
A classroom addition was completed and opened on November 23, 1961.
In 1964, a new church facility was built on a five-acre site located on Epworth Drive on Chapman Mountain and today is adjacent to I-565/US Hwy 72.
The first service in the Sanctuary was held on July 23, 1972, and it was consecrated on September 10, 1972, by Bishop Robert M. Blackburn.
