JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: School Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional and legal requirements as they relate to the School Health Services Program.
REPORTS TO: Principal
GOALS: To strengthen the educational process through improvement to the health status and learning of children. To assess and evaluate the total health of each student. To assure that the health needs of the school population are considered in the communities overall health planning.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts school health services and supervises and coordinates the following programs:
Immunizations
Strep throat
Dental
Sports physicals
Screening of vision, hearing, growth and development.
Random Drug Testing
Maintains up to date cumulative student health records.
Establish procedures concerning emergency illness, accidents and first aid.
Makes referrals and maintains contact with physicians and community agencies regarding children's health needs.
Reports to parents and school personnel on school medical matters.
Provides care of students of staff members who have suffered injury or emergency illness.
Authorizes exclusions and readmission of students connected with infections and contagious diseases.
Advise teachers on health matters particularly regarding screening for student health defects.
Prepares and submits reports for Superintendent and State Board of Health.
Attends and participates in workshops that contribute to professional growth.
Works as a member of the total school team which has the responsibilities of maintaining the social, emotional and physical health of the students.
Acts as a resource person for health information for classroom teachers.
Assists in coordination of student accident programs and process claims.
Attends designated sports events with overtime pay.
Other duties as may, from time to time, be assigned by Supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Length of contract to be determined by Supervisor.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of staff.

Student Support Services/Substitute School Nurse
Date Available: ASAP
To work on an as needed basis when the regular school nurse is absent. This position is on an as needed basis and is non-benefit eligible.
Pay: $30.00 per hour

Current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in Wyoming
RegisteredNurse with a Two-year (Associate's) or Four-year (Bachelor's) degree, from an accredited college or university

Ability to work with various personality types
Sound emotional judgment

Sufficient strength to lift boxes or equipment that may weigh as much as fifty (50) pounds and be able to move them as far as fifty feet (50')
Sufficient strength and stamina to remain seated for periods as long as two (2) hours without fatigue or discomfort

STARTING SALARY: $34,020 - $59,020 per year, depending on experience (additional $2,520 for BSN).

QUALIFICATIONS:

REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL: To act under the general direction of the building principal. To perform those duties required by school nurses to meet specific requirements as listed in state statutes and local school district policy related to the overall health care of students in the school system and other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedule and perform routine screening procedures, follow-up, and referral.
Create care plans for students as necessary. LPN's must adhere to (not create) care plans as established by the district nurse.
Assist administrators in developing school health programs.
Assess students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
Implement Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
Participate in in-service training programs.
Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
Conduct school programs of immunization, health assessments, and sight and hearing tests as directed by NASN (National Association of School Nurses).
Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
Act as a liaison between home and school regarding health concerns, making home visits when necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the workday.
Upper body strength ability to lift students for positioning in wheelchairs, side lyers, or floor mats. (Back support provided if needed.)
