This position involves working at rail stations and bus garages throughout Central New Jersey, focusing on critical fare collection systems including Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), fare gates, Ticket Office Machines (TOMs), bus validators, and fareboxes.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance: Service and maintain low voltage fare collection equipment including Ticket Vending Machines, fare gates, Ticket Office Machines at NJT rail stations, as well as validators and fareboxes on buses at bus garages
Field Service: Perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs at train stations, bus garages, and transit facilities throughout New Jersey
System Installation: Install, configure, and upgrade fare collection hardware and software systems for station-based equipment and bus-mounted fare collection devices
Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance schedules and system health checks to ensure optimal equipment performance across both rail and bus systems
Technical Support: Provide technical assistance and basic training to station personnel, bus operators, garage staff, and NJT staff
Documentation: Maintain detailed service records, repair logs, and maintenance activities for all equipment serviced
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures when working in active rail station environments and bus garage facilities
Qualifications
Required:
Associate's degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or related technical field
2+ years of field service experience with low voltage systems or electronic equipment
Strong knowledge of electronic circuits, diagnostic tools, and repair techniques
Familiarity with public transportation systems and fare collection technology preferred not required
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Ability to operate a company truck for daily travel to multiple work sites
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Flexibility to work variable hours as needed to meet project demands
Schedule flexibility is essential: Must be willing and able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed for emergency repairs and system maintenance
Preferred:
Experience with transit systems or public transportation equipment is a plus

Work will include removal of old electronic components and cabling, installing new components and cabling, terminating low voltage electrical wiring to 12 and 24 volt power sources on vehicles. Will need to have some experience with mounting equipment/components, running cables and wiring, stripping and preparing wiring, crimping electrical terminals onto wiring, terminating wires to electrical sources such as breakers, terminal blocks, grounding lugs, etc. Candidates will need to have previous electronics/electromechanical /construction /trades experience.

Currently, NOVA employs 650+ personnel in 18 offices serving clients throughout the southeastern United States and beyond. Our firm has professional and administrative support staff that includes registered professional engineers, registered professional geologists, environmental scientists, registered roof observers, LEED accredited professionals, soil/foundation engineers, laboratory specialists, materials technicians, ICC-certified inspectors, NICET-certified technicians, and AWS-certified welding inspectors. NOVA's facilities include AASHTO-accredited laboratories in soils, concrete, aggregate and hot-mix asphalt testing/inspection. We also have CCRL-inspected laboratories for concrete sampling, curing, and testing. NOVA will continue to expand its reach and reputation as a leader in the testing, inspection, and consulting fields with a strong legacy of quality and integrity by promoting our best internal resources and recruiting a diverse culture of valued and exceptional talent.
