Estes Valley Recreation District company history timeline

1875

The next year, in 1875, Lord Dunraven built a rudimentary golf course of some sort, but little is known of its style or size.

1877

In 1877, Lord Dunraven and his friend, Albert Bierstadt, selected a site and built the Estes Park Hotel, a popular English-style retreat.

1900

The town of Estes Park started its beginnings back in the early 1900’s with the help of Abner Sprague, for which a popular spot in Rocky Mountain National Park was named after, Sprague Lake.

1909

The investors who purchased Lord Dunraven’s property started down the road of creating a course by building a clubhouse, which was completed in 1909.

1915

In 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park was established and following two years later was the official incorporation of the Town of Estes Park.

1917

On November 10, 1917, The Estes Park Golf and Country Club filed articles of incorporation.

1930

During the 1930’s financial crisis, however, it was converted to a 9-hole course and an airstrip was built in hopes of improving tourism.

1944

Plus, the addition of the Alva Adams tunnel in 1944, to help bring water from Grand Lake under Rocky Mountain National Park to help irrigate thirsty farms along the front range.

1955

All tax revenue and other funds collected are designated to serve the park and recreational needs of those who live and visit the Estes Valley.The District, originally formed in 1955, was first known as the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Recreation District.

1957

In March 1957, the Town of Estes Park signed a long-term lease agreement with the recreation district, then called the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Recreation District.

2018

In 2018, the Estes Park 18-Hole Golf Course will celebrate 100 years of operation in Estes Valley.
