Exicure CEO and leadership

Dr. Giljohann is our Chief Executive Officer and director. Dr. Giljohann has served as our CEO since November 2013 and has been on our board of directors since March 2014. From July 2012 to October 2013, Dr. Giljohann was our Chief Operating Officer. From 2011 until June 2012, Dr. Giljohann served as our principal scientist. Dr. Giljohann was our founding scientist in 2011. Prior to that, Dr. Giljohann was the founding scientist of AuraSense, LLC, our largest stockholder, in 2009.

Dr. Giljohann completed his Ph.D. in the laboratory of Dr. Chad A. Mirkin where he developed oligonucleotide-modified nanoparticles, including NanoFlare™ and Spherical Nucleic Acid (SNA™) technologies. Dr. Giljohann was named to the Endpoint News’ “Under 40s” biopharma executives list in 2018 and the Analytical Scientist’s “Top 40 Under 40 Power List” in 2014. Dr. Giljohann has also been recognized for his work with a Materials Research Society Gold Award, Baxter Innovation Award, Rappaport Award for Research Excellence, NSEC Outstanding Research Award, and as a finalist in the National Inventors Hall of Fame Collegiate Inventors Competition.

Dr. Giljohann received his B.A. in Biology and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Northwestern University.

Dr. Feltner has served as our Chief Medical Officer since May 2020. Dr. Feltner brings over 20 years of experience in clinical drug development and in translational medicine, primarily focused on neurology, psychiatry and neuroscience.

Prior to joining the Company, was the vice president of clinical development at AveXis (now part of Novartis), focusing on developing gene therapies for neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, including Zolgensma® for patients with spinal muscular atrophy. Prior to AveXis, Dr. Feltner, served as Vice President, Neuroscience Development, for AbbVie, Inc. and Vice President, Global Head of Translational Medicine for Pfizer, Inc.

Dr. Feltner earned his M.D., with distinction in research, from the University of Michigan Medical School, did his residency in psychiatry at George Washington University, and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Lab of Mammalian Genes and Development at The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Mr. Bock joins Exicure with over 20 years of life science investment banking, mergers and acquisitions and partnering experience. Previously, he served as Managing Director, Healthcare Investment Banking at Lincoln International, leading the firm’s investment banking advisory engagements with early-stage life science companies. Mr. Bock has an extensive history of working in partnership with early to late-stage healthcare clients, public institutional investors, and venture capital and private equity firms. Prior to his time at Lincoln International, Mr. Bock served as Managing Director, Healthcare Investment Banking at JMP Securities and was a member of the Healthcare Investment Banking team at RBC Capital Markets.

Mr. Bock received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Northern Arizona University.
