Family & Children's Center company history timeline

1888

The La Crosse Home for Children began in 1888 as the Society of the La Crosse Home for Friendless Women and Children.

1895

1895 Greenwich Aid Society formed Stamford Children's Home founded

1912

1912 The United Workers opened the Emily Bruce Shelter - later renamed The Greenwich Shelter

1936

1936 Child Guidance Clinic established as a program of Family & Children's Services

1953

1953 Family & Children's Center legally changed it's name to Family & Children's Services of Stamford.

1960

When the name was changed to the La Crosse Family Welfare Association in 1960, new services such as marital and family counseling, relief for military personnel and Travelers’ Aid were added.

1962

1962 Family & Children's Services admitted to the United Fund of Darien

1972

1972 New Canaan office opens

By 1972, the La Crosse Home for Children had shortened its name and focused on care for dependent and neglected children at its residence at 11th and Ferry Streets.

1982

1982 Center for HOPE was established

1983

The Family & Children’s Center has been a familiar name in La Crosse since 1983 when the Family Service Association and the La Crosse Home for Children merged to become one agency.

1986

The Children's Center was founded in 1986.

1990

1990 School Based Health Center (SBHC) opened at Stamford High School

1993

1993 The Den for Grieving Children started by the Junior League of Greenwich

1995

1995 The Family Center, Inc. and Family & Children's Services, Inc. merged to form Family Centers Inc.

1998

In 1998, the Florida legislature mandated that all foster care and related services be privatized, or provided through contract by private, non-profit agencies across the state.

2003

The initial contract between DCF and PSF was signed on June 29, 2003.

The initial contract between the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Partnership for Strong Families (PSF) was signed on June 29, 2003.

2003 Stamford CARES and the School Based Health Centers (SBHC) merged to form HealthCare Connection

2004

Services expanded to Black River Falls in 2004, after Family & Children’s Center was awarded the contract from Jackson County to provide the Community Support Program for chronically mentally ill adults.

2008

2008 HealthCare Connection merged with Family Centers, Inc.

2016

2016 Family Centers Health Care Opens at Wilbur Peck Court in Greenwich
