On February 7, 1974, the Presbytery of New York City officially transferred the great historic church building as a gift to the First Chinese Presbyterian Church to be dedicated to the service of the Chinese community.
In 1974, a church member, worker, and seminary student, wrote that the absence of a full-time pastor was a “blessing in disguise” for First Church.
Arthur Smith became First Church’s pastor in 1976.
The Home Attendant program of FCPC was established in 1979 with the goal of providing home attendant services to elderly and disabled Medicaid recipients (“clients”) residing in Manhattan Community Districts 1 to 8.
