In July 2005 the site for a plant to be built in Fairmont, Nebraska was selected which offered several advantages including proximity to existing grain production, work force, and excellent accessibility to road and rail transportation.
In November 2006, ABE acquired Heartland Grain Fuels LP (HGF). At the time of acquisition, HGF was operating a total of 40 million gallon per year of ethanol production at plants in Huron and Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Dirt work was complete and construction of the plant was in full swing during the summer of 2006.
The Fairmont, NE location was sold to Flint Hills Resources, LLC in December 2012.
