Florida Everblades company history timeline

1998

Built in 1998, Germain Arena is the home of the Ultimate Indoor Football League’s Florida Tarpons and also hosts more than 300 entertainment events, like Stars on Ice, Disney On Ice, WWE wrestling and headline concerts.

Of note: ECHL Hall-of-Fame goalie Marc Magliarditi helped the newly-formed Everblades franchise get off to an impressive start in 1998.

The team was founded in 1998 by Craig Brush, Peter Karmanos Jr., and Thomas Thewes and was named based on the Florida Everglades.

2001

Of note: A model of consistency, Buckely holds the team record for longest point streak, having recorded a goal or assist in 16 consecutive games in 2001.

2003

In 2003, he set a team record by scoring a goal in nine consecutive games.

2005

The high-scoring forward scored over a point-per-game in five of the seven seasons he played with Florida, aside from the 2005-06 season.

Of note: Beginning with the Everblades, LaRose worked his way through the ranks of the Carolina Hurricanes organization and was a part of the 2005-06 Stanley Cup-winning team.

One famous event that stands out among Blades' fans was during the 2005 ECHL playoffs.

2006

Following his retirement in 2006, Coalter joined the Lee County Fire Department.

2007

Following his retirement in 2007, he has remained in Estero and coached youth hockey, including the Junior Everblades.

2008

Of note: After registering 102 points during his 2008-09 campaign, Baker was named ECHL MVP. Despite playing just two seasons for Florida, his name is scattered throughout the team’s record book – eighth all-time in career points, seventh in goals and third in power-play goals.

2012

Of note: No Everblade has ever scored a goal quite as big as the one MacLean put in the back of the net in 2012.

2013

In April 2013, owner Peter Karmanos, Jr. announced he would be selling the team along with Germain Arena to "simplify things" in his life, as he had just retired from the company he founded, Compuware.

2014

The undersized blueliner won the ECHL’s Defenseman of the Year award in the 2014-15 season after leading the league in plus-minus and posting 54 points.

Demonstrating that persistence pays off, he spent the final season of his 14-year career in the NHL, playing 10 games for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2014-15.

2016

Harris was named captain for the 2016-17 season, but he signed with EC Red Bull Salzburg, which is led by former Everblades coach Greg Poss, over the offseason.

2018

After the 2018–19 season, the Everblades dropped the Hurricanes affiliation for the first time and partnered with the Nashville Predators.

2019

In April 2013, owner Peter Karmanos, Jr. announced he would be selling the team along with Germain Arena to "simplify things" in his life, as he had just retired from the company he founded, Compuware. It was then announced on August 5, 2019, that Karmanos had sold both the team and arena to David Hoffmann, a Naples, Florida, resident and real estate investor.
