Florida Keys Community College company history timeline

1965

The southernmost institution of the “Great 28” in the Florida College System, “Monroe County Junior College” was established in 1965.

1968

In 1968, the name was changed to “Florida Keys Junior College” upon the opening of the main campus on Stock Island.

1997

In 1997, the College unveiled a new $40 million campus named after Doctor William A. Seeker, the College president who championed its funding.

2012

The College then welcomed its fifth president Doctor Lawrence W. Tyree, who was also named “President Emeritus” upon his retirement in 2012.

2014

In 2014, the College opened a new Marine Technology Building on the Key West Campus.

2016

Opportunities expanded in 2016 to include two associate degrees, in Hospitality and Ecotourism and Culinary Management, as well as seven certificates.

2019

In 2019, the College changed its name from Florida Keys Community College to The College of the Florida Keys to reflect its recent and anticipated growth.

2021

Also in 2021, the College opened a new Upper Keys Center in Key Largo.

2022
