1829

In 1829, a physician performed a laminectomy on a man who fell from a horse.

1839

In 1839, Jules Guerin was the first to attempt spinal surgery on patients to correct scoliosis.

1885

In 1885, Wilhelm Roentgen, a German physicist, created the x-ray.

1922

In 1922, a successful fusion surgery was done on a tuberculosis patient by Russell Hibbs.

1932

In 1932, Mixter and Barr did the first intentional discectomy on a patient.

1973

Surgeons also gained the knowledge to reduce trauma to surrounding nerves and tissue, and this allowed incisions to shrink and get much more precise.In 1973, the idea of endoscopic lumbar discectomy was introduced by Kambin and Savitz.

1975

Hijikata became the first surgeon in the world to remove a disc through a tube in 1975.

2005

March 23, 2005 — Carl Karnes has surgery, becoming Laser Spine Institute’s first patient.

2006

January 2006 — Our Tampa facility grows from four to six operating rooms and from 50 employees to 100.

2008

January 2008 — Laser Spine Institute Tampa grows from six to eight operating rooms.

2009

November 11, 2009 — Laser Spine Institute expands to Philadelphia to serve our patients in the Northeast.

2012

June 8, 2012 — Laser Spine Institute performs our first RegenaDISC® procedure.

2014

January 7, 2014 — Laser Spine Institute partners with American Chiropractic Association.

2016

Early 2016 — Laser Spine Institute’s new corporate headquarters is slated to open in Tampa.
