What You'll Do Provide direct patient care to individuals of all ages experiencing illness or trauma requiring emergency attention Recognize, assess, and effectively respond to life-threatening conditions Perform delegated clinical tasks within paramedic scope of practice Initiate life-saving interventions including advanced airway management, ventilation support, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, cardioversion, defibrillation, and pacing Continuously monitor patient status and communicate changes to providers and nursing staff Explain procedures and treatments to patients and families to promote understanding and ease concerns Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members Assist with patient care in the Med/Surg unit within scope of practice (excluding admissions and shift assessments) Restock supplies and maintain readiness of clinical areas Maintain a safe, compliant work environment by following standard precautions and hazardous waste procedures Uphold patient, employee, and organizational confidentiality Participate in training, meetings, and professional development opportunities Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude, including assisting with tasks outside the routine job description when needed Requirements National Standard Paramedic Certification through the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of EMS Critical Care Paramedic endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain after hire Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications PHTLS required (may be completed within 6 months of hire) Minimum of two years of paramedic experience preferred Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a high-acuity environment

Makes recommendations to improve the Emergency Department's Standards of Care. *MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:* * Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa. * One year of RN experience preferred OR new graduate if the candidate has completed senior nursing preceptorship at Mercy Emergency or previous experience as an emergency department technician or experience in a pre-hospital environment. * Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within 3 months of hire. * Basic Life Support (BLS) certified within six (6) weeks of hire.
