Labor and Delivery is a procedural unit that provides intrapartum care for women of childbearing age and also provides outpatient diagnostic services related to pregnancy such as fetal monitoring and antenatal testing

Must be able to start the week of May 18th or June 1st
Full time day shift 7a-7:30p with weekend and holiday rotation; This is a temporary position until the student returns to school for fall semester, at which time the position will transition to a PRN CNA role on the unit hired.
Job Summary
Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.
Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and under direct supervision may participate in the nursing process, i.e. assessment, documentation, planning, interventions and evaluations. Can independently function as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), once competencies are verified. Meets patient care standard requirements as outlined by Frederick Health Hospital policies and standards and performs nursing procedures for which she/he has theoretical background from a nursing academic program. Functions within the limits of the State and Federal licensing, regulatory bodies.
Example of Essential Functions:
Must complete all Hospital wide and Department specific competencies for Certified Nursing Assistants.
Performs according to the Frederick Health Hospital Nurse Extern policy and Weekly Progress Expectations.
Under the direct supervision of the RN Preceptor, develops the skills to perform nursing practice functions per the Nurse Extern policy and unit-specific RN competencies.
Performs independently the roles and responsibilities of a C.N.A.
In a team relationship with a registered nurse, and under the instruction, direction, and supervision of a registered nurse, the Nurse Extern shall:
Collect and record routine health data that is defined but not limited to cultural, religious, and socioeconomic background and activities of daily living.
Orally report the health status data as required by the nurse.
Provide feedback to the nurse regarding the nurse-directed plan of care which is being implemented.
Provide feedback to the nurse about the patient's expressed wishes concerning the plan of care.
Provide assistance with activities of daily living as delegated by the nurse, including but not limited to:
Morning, evening, and general care to include bathing, mouth care, hair care, shaving, and skin care according to individual patient needs.
Repositioning patients to prevent skin breakdown.
Ensuring patients are out of bed and ambulated according to physician orders and RN direction.
Preparing for and assisting patients with meals, nourishments, and beverages.
Perform interventions as delegated by a registered nurse, including but not limited to:
Hourly rounding to include the 4 P's: Pain, Potty, Personal Needs; Possessions.
Blood glucose testing, vital signs, pulse oximetry, height, weight, SCD's, indwelling urinary catheter removal, indwelling peripheral intravenous catheter removal, simple wound care to uncomplicated healing surgical wounds, and/or other equipment required by each department.
Record routine data and care provided on appropriate documents.
Identify the need for assistance and request assistance when the CNA is unsure about the condition; does not know how to do an activity; or is working in a new practice setting.
Report the patient's response and the patient's progress to the nurse at designated times and/or when there is a change in the patient's condition.
Make suggestions or recommendations on how the nursing plan of care can be modified based on the observations of the patient's performance.
Participation in: Quality of care activities, Performance self-appraisal, Continued learning, Collaboration, Completion of appropriate delegated assignments.
Under the direct supervisor of a licensed RN the Nurse Extern will perform the following essential job functions and associated performance measures
It is the responsibility of the Nurse Extern to demonstrate use of the nursing process while providing direct patient care. The Nurse Extern:
Participates in and contributes to the performance of ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the care of patients.
Under direct supervision of the nurse preceptor, can prepare and administer medications, including flushing of peripheral IV lines with saline and flushing peripheral intermittent infusion devices (IID) with saline.
Under direct supervision of the nurse preceptor, can administer and regulate intravenous fluids.
Under direct supervision of the nurse preceptor, can prepare and administer non-emergent IV push drugs and heparin flushes for central lines for adults only.
Under direct supervision of the nurse preceptor, can provide care of triple lumen catheters and PICC lines for adults.
Nurse Externs may not: Administer IV chemotherapeutic drugs, Administer IV push drugs to Pediatric patients under 12 years of age, Flush Dialysis catheters, Flush peripheral IV lines or peripheral IID's on patients less than 3 years of age,
Co-sign documentation of and/or administer high-risk medications
Develops nursing skills and functions under the direct supervision of the RN Preceptor.
Incorporates suggestions for self-development and/or performance into daily practice.
Utilizes supplies, equipment, and technology to ensure quality of patient care.
Consistently utilizes communication style that sets department tone for positive professional behavior. Promotes meaningful focused communication between all members of the healthcare team as appropriate.
Encourages professional interactions between ancillary healthcare givers, including physicians.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:
Currently entering final/senior year of Registered Nurse educational program
Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Skills and abilities to perform all job description duties according to the age specific patient population served by their department and described in the Department's Quality Improvement Plan.

TidalHealth is looking for candidates for our Certified Nursing Assistant Trainee (CNA) Program. TidalHealth has designed an internal Certified Nursing Assistant course called the TidalHealth Nursing Assistant program that we have submitted for approval by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Eligibility Requirements:

•Students applying to this internship/practicum will need a strong foundation in child/adolescent mental health theory and related theory and practice, clinical reasoning, foundations of evidence-based practice, group theory and application, and teaching/learning concepts and applications related to staff, client, and caregiver education.
Learning Model:
Supervision is provided in a 1:1 supervision model by a Licensed Certified Social Worker, Clinical or Licensed Certified Professional Counselor once a week. In addition, task supervision will be provided at offsite placements by a licensed master's level social worker or counselor who is on-site daily. Both group supervision as well as training opportunities are also provided on a bi-monthly basis.
Student Expectations:
Student expectations include self-directed learning; independently seeking learning opportunities and feedback, flexible thinking and adaptability. Readiness to learn from all experiences. Patience and compassion when working with this challenging patient population.
Student Tasks:
Students will have the opportunity to provide individual, group and family therapy. They will also get experience in crisis intervention and collaboration with school staff. These programs work with diverse populations within the Montgomery County Public School System. Students will be assigned at minimum 4-6 students for individual caseload. They will also co-lead and lead group therapy sessions. They have the opportunity to attend IEP meetings and help with behavioral modification within the school. They also work with school counselors on a needs assessment for the school to help determine services that will be provided by the program.
