On June 8, 1850 the people of Freeport voted to build their first high school.
Thomas H. Wheeler becomes a teacher in the Freeport School around 1858
The first graduating class from Freeport High School graduated in 1863 with a class size of five.
As enrollment continued to grow, once again in 1905 the Board of Education was confronted with the need to expand the high school.
The Tattler, a weekly newspaper, was founded in 1908 by Freeport High School student James E. Stiles.
The original building was built in 1925 and consisted of 58 classrooms.
The building was located at the corner of West Pleasant Street and North Galena Avenue, and it served the community until June of 1926.
Some 26,000 students have graduated from Freeport High School since it was moved to the present site in 1926.
In 1947, the club reorganized and became the Freeport Fathers' and Boosters' Club of Freeport.
Freeport High School dedicated on November 6, 1960
(April 21) March of Dimes, Nassau County Department of Health, and the Freeport Public Schools held an immunization clinic at Columbus Avenue School for rubella (German measles). Vaccinations for rubella became mandatory for New York State school children in 1970
In 1982-83, Freeport High School became a comprehensive four year high school.
