French-American School of New York company history timeline

1980

Founded in 1980 as a one-classroom preschool, the French-American School of New York is now an international and bilingual day school on three campuses with more than 720 students from nursery school through grade 12.

1986

In 1986, Doctor Koji Sonoda, a linguist and professor originally from Japan, acquired Lyceum Kennedy.

1995

In 1995, the second campus moved to 145 New Street, in Mamaroneck, and was home to the preschool and high school, which, in those days, went up to only the 10th grade.

1996

1996 Brigitte Sajous was appointed co-head of the school with Katherine Watkins.

2005

2005 A third campus opened in Scarsdale to host the preschool.

2007

2007 FASNY added the 11th and 12th grades, offering the S and ES tracks as well as the International Option of the French baccalaureate.

2008

In 2008, the Wood family started their search for the quintessential international academic environment for their children.

2009

With the support of equally passionate, committed parents, The École—then known as Ecole Internationale de New York—opened its doors six months later at 111 East 22nd Street on September 8th, 2009.

In 2009, FASNY graduated its first high-school class.

2012

2012 Joël Peinado was appointed head of school.

2015

2015 FASNY was accredited to offer the International Baccalaureate, in addition to the French baccalaureate.

2017

In 2017, FASNY eventually received approval for a reduced project for its grades 6-12 school on one of the four parcels that comprise the site.

In 2017, Philippe and Laurence Roux, parents of two of our Elementary students, joined The École leadership family.

2018

2018 The preschool moved back to Larchmont.

Our “Conversation Mark” logo was formally adopted in 2018, at the same time as The École name.

2019

In 2019, FASNY had listed for sale the three other parcels that make up the 129 acres:

2020 FASNY celebrates its 40th anniversary and launches the International Program for students in grades 1 through 8.

2021

In 2021, The École has been authorized to open its first class of Pre-Nursery.
