Friends For Life company history timeline

1985

Friends For Life Corporation (FFL), one of the oldest and most comprehensive AIDS service organizations in the southern United States, was founded in 1985.

A group of friends whose loved ones were dying from complications associated with HIV/AIDS formed the Aid To End AIDS Committee in 1985, the organization that grew to become Friends For Life.

1989

Friends for Life is a 501(c)(3) charity that was founded in Waco, Texas in September of 1989 to improve the quality of life for seniors and people with disabilities, particularly those who are without family to care for them.

1993

Arizona Friends for Life began in 1993 – then known as Citizens for Tempe Strays.

1999

Our agency merged with another nonprofit agency, Aloysius Home, in 1999, allowing an expansion of services that includes permanent supportive housing.

2002

Founded in 2002, Friends For Life introduced the no-kill shelter model to Houston – saving animals regardless of their breed, age or condition.

2006

An extensive history of Friends For Life was created in 2006 for our 20th anniversary.

2010

In 2010, after re-evaluating our priority of rescue and adoption, and not being a sanctuary facility, Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary changed our name to Friends for Life Animal Rescue.

2013

In 2013, Friends for Life was able to purchase all three buildings, so all of our adopted animals are now guaranteed to always have a home to come back to!
