GA Printing company history timeline

1875

The first lithographic printing press was created in England around 1875, allowing images on metal plates to be transferred to rubber blankets or rollers, and then onto the print media.

1969

After major renovation to the building and installation of all the equipment, the first papers rolled off the press in November of 1969.

Greater Georgia Printers, Inc. was formed in 1969 when five newspaper publishers joined forces in an effort to pool resources.

1975

Until 1975, GGP had one full time employee and printed weekly newspapers one or two days a week.

IBM introduced the first laser printer in 1975.

1977

In 1977, GGP purchased additional equipment, hired more employees and began printing other types of newsprint related products.

1984

1985

In 1985, GGP purchased 14 acres on Highway 78, west of Crawford, built a 8,400 square foot building, and bought all new equipment at a cost of approximately $1m.

1987

In 1987 GGP purchased a 17” x 22” single color sheetfed press and began printing basic commercial items such as flyers, newsletters, and football programs.

1988

1992

In November of 1992, GGP purchased the equipment and customer files of an established printing company in Athens, Georgia and formed Piedmont Impressions as the sheetfed division of Greater Georgia Printers, Inc.

2000

Screen printing originated in China almost 2000 years ago, when human hair was stretched across wooden frames to create a screen with attached stencils.
