1890

In 1890 Gloversville became a city.

1891

1891 - The Gloversville Street Electric Railway is Founded.

1892

GLOVERSVILLE BUSINESS SCHOOL. - The above is a view of the building and grounds occupied by the Gloversville Business School, which was established in the year 1892, and like most schools of its kind was located on the third floor of a business block in the busy section of the city.

1893

1893 - The first electric railway run from Fonda to Gloversville was on June 29th.

1894

1894 - On May 30th the original Nathan Littauer Hospital opened on Littauer Place.

1897

THE MORNING HERALD. - March 27, 1897, the paper sprung into existence from what remained of the old Gloversville Daily Standard.

1899

A recent accession is the firm of Batty & Northrup, which was established here in 1899.

1902

1902- The North Main Street Fire Station is built.

1902 - Andrew Carnegie gave $50,000 for the construction of the Carnegie Building on East Fulton Street to be used as a library.

1905

J. P. Tower is the general manager of the Gloversville warerooms, which position he has occupied since December, 1905, albeit he is an old hand at the piano business and known thoroughly its every detail.

1906

October 1, 1906, the paper passed from the control of the stock company to the sole ownership of Charles B. Knox of Johnstown, who is the present owner, and whose ideas of progress and enterprise are reflected in the strides The Morning Herald has made since he became the owner.

Schubert bought out this very old and firmly established stand in November, 1906, since which time he has succeeded in building up a large trade.

1912

1912 - The Gloversville Fire Department became motorized when a car was purchased for the Chief.

1914

1914 - The Glove Theatre was built on October 9th and was owned by Doctor Henry Cady and George Dartch.

1916

1916 - On March 17th the Marley Block fire, located three buildings down from the Kasson Opera house heading south, destroyed J.C, Marley & Son Cigar Manufacturers store.

1918

Gloversville takes barticular pride in its Home Fund, it having been the pioneer city in the country in establishing, in 1918, the community chest method of caring for its charities — a method which has proved so successful that it is now employed in about 250 cities throughout the country.

1924

Their reports, in 1924, showed a combined capitalization of $1,250,000; deposits of more than $12,000,000; and surplus and undivided profits of $1,500,000.

Doctor William J. Miller, the eminent geologist, is the author of the "Geological History of New York State" and "The Adirondack Mountains". Professor Miller was formerly professor of geology at Hamilton College, and now (1924) holds a similar position in Smith College.

1925

1950

1950 - Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Co. is built at 135 Easterly Street in the Town of Johnstown down the road from the present location of Nathan Littauer Hospital.

1968

1968 - The new location of Nathan Littauer Hospital opened at 99 East State Street in September.

1969

1969 - The Gloversville Passenger Depot burns to the ground on September 19th.

1984

1984 - The Delaware Otsego System abandons the Fonda, Johnstown & Gloversville Railroad and there is no interest from outside parties to run the line.

2005

2005 - The Gloversville Public Library was established as a school district public library with the passing of a proposition on June 14th.
