1972

Del Monte continues to annually host championship golf, including the Monterey Open and the Monterey City Amateur, the latter of which began at Del Monte in 1972.

1974

The Lakewood Club hosted the 1974 United States Senior Women's Amateur Championship for the first time.

1980

The hotel reopened on April 10, 1980.

1981

In 1981, the Marriott Corporation bought the Grand Hotel and added the North Bay House and the Marina building, bringing total guest rooms to 306.

1983

In 1983, a fourth nine holes were added – this made for two 18-hole courses, the Dogwood and Azalea courses.

1984

1984: The Old Course hosted its 23rd Open Championship, which was its 113th annual competition.

In 1984 an additional nine holes were built, bringing the total to 36 and creating two unique courses–the North and the South, which are now known as Champions and Legends.

1986

The Lakewood Club hosted the 1986 United States Senior Women's Amateur Championship for the second time.

1990

1990: The Old Course hosted its 24th Open Championship, which was its 119th annual competition.

1993

1993: The St Andrews Trust presided over the construction of another exquisite golf course called the “Strathtyrum Course.” The development of the Strathtyrum Course was accompanied by the spectacular Golf Practice Centre.

1995

1995: The Open Championship joined the PGA Tour as the “British Open.” American golfer John Daily defeated Costantino Rocca at the Old Course by two shots.

1999

In 1999 the World Golf Championships was played on the original course layout with the opening nine composed of holes 10 through 18 on the Legends Course while the closing nine consisted of holes one through three and 13 through 18 on the Champions Course.

2000

2000: The St Andrews Links became the largest golf complex in the world with the debut of the Eden Clubhouse.

2003

In 2003, La Costa received a $140 million restoration.

2004

2004: Destination Kohler, a subsidiary of the Kohler Company, purchased the rights to the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa.

2005

After a $5 million dollar restoration effort in 2005, the Hill Course was renamed The Donald Ross Course at French Lick.

The renovation of the Azalea course was completed in 2005.

2005: The Old Course hosted its 27th Open Championship, which was its 134th annual competition.

2006

An expansion of the Grand’s grounds and new real estate opportunities were announced in 2006.

2008

Daily patriotic military salutes and cannon firing started in 2008.

2008: The Castle Course opened at the St Andrews Links, earning the title of “World’s Best Golf Course of 2008” form Travel & Leisure – Golf Magazine.

2010

2010: The Old Course hosted the 138th annual Open Championship.

2013

Following a successful renovation, Omni Hotels purchased La Costa in 2013.

2015

2015: The Open Championship returned to the Old Course for an unprecedented 29th time.

2016

"The Experience" opened in the Spring of 2016.

2017

Beginning in 2017, the Grand began a magnificent transformation designed to recast the entire resort as a sanctuary of modern Southern hospitality.

Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2017, dates to 1400.

2018

The United States Amatuer has been played at Pebble Beach five times – most recently when Viktor Hovland captured the title in 2018.

2019

The 2019 United States Open marked Pebble Beach’s 13th USGA Championship, and sixth United States Open.
