Goodale & Barbieri company history timeline

1937

The company is privately owned and was established in 1937 by Louis Barbieri and Frank Goodale when they purchased Washington Trust Company's Property Management Division.

1937 Louis Barbieri After graduating from Gonzaga University, Louis Barbieri began working for F.M Goodale in property management.

1937: The company is launched as the property management division of a bank.

1944

In 1944 Goodale bought the business and Barbieri stayed on.

1959

Although he bought out Goodale in 1959, Barbieri retained the company name.

1972

1972 Residential Division The company began its Residential division, working with Apartments, HUD developments, and subsidized housing.

1974

Civic-minded, the elder Barbieri also helped to bring the World's Fair to Spokane in 1974, an event that also marked the entry of Goodale & Barbieri into the hotel business.

1975

In 1975 the company joined forces with Burlington Northern Land Development to build the Cavanaughs River Inn in Spokane, utilizing an old railroad coal yard that had once served the Burlington Northern Railroad.

1975: The company builds its first hotel.

1976

1976 Hospitality Division founded Goodale & Barbieri founded a hospitality division and opened Cavanaugh's River Inn in Spokane.

1978

Don Barbieri was instrumental in the diversification of Goodale & Barbieri, and in 1978 he became chief executive officer, succeeding his father, who retained the chairmanship.

Goodale & Barbieri added another hotel in 1978, the 245-room Cavanaughs at Columbia Center in Kennewick, Washington.

1979

Thomas M. Barbieri started out in 1979 serving as the general manager of Cavanaughs River Inn.

1985

1985 IBM Building Goodale & Barbieri developed and constructed the IBM Building (currently known as the RLH Building). Company offices moved to the ground floor.

1986

1986 Cavanaugh's Hotel and Mall Complex The company opened its fifth Cavanaugh's hotel and $20 million dollar shopping mall complex in Kalispell, Montana.

1987

1987 G&B Select-a-Seat Goodale & Barbieri Company began operating G&B Select-a-Seat, which present day operates as TicketsWest and WestCoast Entertainment.

1987 50th Anniversary Goodale & Barbieri Company celebrated their 50th year of business with a strong tradition of service to Spokane and the Inland Northwest and a commitment to innovation, progress, and economic development.

1988

In 1988, however, the company built a slightly different kind of senior project, the 105-unit Rockwood Lane Retirement Community, which catered to middle- and upper-income retirees.

1991

While two properties were added to the Cavanaughs chain in 1991, one was sold off.

1992

In early 1992 the company formed a contract foodservices division, which management considered to be a natural outgrowth of its expanding hospitality business.

1997

In July 1997 Goodale & Barbieri marked another, and sadder, milestone when at the age of 82 Lou Barbieri died after undergoing kidney dialysis treatment at a Spokane hospital.

1998

Following a month-long road show, the initial public offering (IPO) was completed in April 1998, raising $89 million.

1998 G&B Goes Public Goodale & Barbieri Company went public on the NYSE as Cavanaugh's Hospitality Corporation.

2001

As was the case with the lodging industry in general, WestCoast suffered a downturn in business due to a slowing economy and the adverse impact the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, had on travel.

2001: The Red Lion hotel chain is acquired.

2008

Goodale & Barbieri Company purchased the Lincoln Plaza Building, located in Downtown Spokane and in 2008 relocated its main offices to the building with 90 employees.

2012

2012 75th Anniversary Goodale & Barbieri Company celebrates their 75th year of providing superior real estate management, leasing, sales, and development services to the Pacific Northwest.

2021

According to available information, there were no reported projects in 2021.
