We are located at 3232 Megan Neyer Way. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, punctual, and engaged. POSITION SUMMARY: Always very professional in the workplace. Maintains a professional manner to the consumer base. Understands Ashland Area YMCA Policies and Procedures. Demonstrates a willingness to work with associates, subordinates, supervisors, and others. Responds willingly to changes in procedures, process, responsibility, and assignments. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Director Must be available to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Responsible for supervising the aquatics area to prevent accidents, assist swimmers, and respond to emergencies. Create a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and satisfaction in accordance with the YMCA policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Be on time, professional, dependable, hardworking, work well with others, and a team player. Maintains and monitors chemical records, pool closing reports, facility maintenance, and incident reports. Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor or the person responsible for those items at your site. Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to managing visitors and guests at our facilities. Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor. Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area/body of water, know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately. Perform first aid when necessary and complete appropriate incident/accident reports. Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and guidelines for the pool. Identify potential accident hazards. Be alert or prevent accidents (risk management). Enforce all pool rules in a consistent manner. Handle discipline situations with courtesy and fairness. Respond quickly, intelligently, decisively in accordance with established emergency accident management procedures. Communicate with other lifeguards and supervisors. Facilitate public relations with a positive and professional attitude, courtesy, and tact. Be available to substitute for other staff members. Follow established substitution procedures. Assist with pool parties or extra events the pool is hosting. Requirements: Report to work 15 minutes before scheduled to guard. Must be able to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to perceive, identify and respond to signs of distress. Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations. Observe all areas of the pool with clear vision. Perform all needed rescues and survival skills. Be able to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue, including swimming quickly, supporting adult body weight while swimming as far as 50 feet, and removing adult body weight from the pool. Communicate verbally, including projecting your voice across a distance in normal and loud situations. Ability to concentrate for long periods of time. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work without constant supervision. Qualifications Minimum age of 16. Current nationally accredited lifeguard certification (applicable for body of water being guarded). Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations. Demonstrated ability to recognize, respond and remedy unsafe situations. Demonstrated ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance. Ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers Ability to work with diverse populations and ages.
