Gurley Precision Instruments company history timeline

1845

The W. and L.E. Gurley Company was founded in Troy in 1845.

Gurley Enterprise was established by William Gurley and Lewis E. Gurley in 1845, brothers who were both alumni of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

1852

The brothers built a factory in 1852 that operated in departments, each department turning out different components, which were then assembled.

Their factory, established in 1852, was ahead of its time.

1862

The W. and L.E. Gurley Building in Troy at 514 Fulton Street, in downtown Troy, was built in 1862.

1876

Exposure at the Centennial Exposition in 1876 launched the company into international prominence from which it never fell.

1968

Teledyne Corporation acquired W. & L. E. Gurley in 1968.

1983

The W. & L. E. Gurley Building in Troy was named a National Historic Landmark in 1983.

1993

In 1993 Gurley was sold again and became Gurley Precision Instruments.
