Responsibilities Takes initiative to identify and intervene in crisis situations using appropriate de-escalation and/or other modes of crisis management. Serves as point person during crisis events providing direction to other staff members including crisis roles, activities, locations for intervention. Able to assess the environment, target potential crisis situations, and intervene in a calm, safe, supportive manner. Lead and help form teams across programs in all patient settings (inpatient, campus outpatient, resident, and student). Teaches Handle With Care and Verbal De-escalation techniques to staff, under the supervision of the CIS supervisor for new hires and annual refresher training. Effectively sets limits on symptomatic behavior, follows through by teaching alternative and more appropriate behaviors (patient limit setting and education). In conjunction with the RN, conducts focused debriefing sessions with new staff after a crisis to help them process and understand the event that took place immediately following the crisis event of Security Alert response, silent or announced. Proactively rounds across the campus in all units to identify and prevent patient escalations. Accurately documents observations, interventions and interactions with patients in accordance with program policies. Maintains daily reports and CIS log for data collection. Responds to all emergencies as trained and directed across the Hospital, East Mountain Youth Lodge, and East Mountain School campus. Able to perform mental health technician duties and leads and/or monitors weekend recreation group sessions with assistance from a unit staff as needed. Develops collegial relationships and shares observations with all levels of patient care staff. Contributes information that is utilized in the development of the plan of care. Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Participates in the orientation of new staff. Attends the required staff development programs annually, including Medical Alert-Cardiac Emergency practices and CPR certification. Models the 5 C standards of behavior. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs. Minimum of 3 years experience providing direct care in a behavioral health setting. Must be able to safely operate Carrier Clinic vehicles and transport residents/patients.
