The Radiology Equipment Specialist is responsible for providing equipment-engineering service including repairs, installation, maintenance inspection, modification, and construction on x-ray, CT, and film handling machines. Responsibilities A day in the life of a Radiology Equipment Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: Provides routine and emergency equipment repair. Performs scheduled periodic equipment maintenance. Provides an inspection report with notations of areas inspected and items that require future and immediate attention. Supervises removal and installation of equipment and may assist manufacturer`s representatives. Installs, designs, constructs, refurbishes, and modifies radiological and associated equipment Maintains adequate records and is familiar with regulatory requirements (i.e., NRC, JCAHO, and state Department of Environmental Protection). Completes federal and state paperwork as required following completion of job. Undertakes acceptance tests on newly installed equipment in association with physicist. Modifies equipment in keeping with manufacturer`s recommendations and/or to the requirements of physicians or management. Keeps the manager and other engineers apprised of equipment failures and problems. Works cooperatively with physicians, technologists (specifically the department of Bio Medical Engineering), and others to resolve problems and complaints. Accepts instruction and constructive criticism from peers. Refurbishes old equipment as required. Achieves understanding of equipment through training courses and/or self study Familiar with sources for parts/supplies and the ordering process Develops guidelines and schedules for assigned projects Adheres to the policies of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality Responsible for scheduled shifts Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: B.S Degree in electronics or equivalent training and at least four years working experience on radiological equipment A working knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, photographic processing, and drafting Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms. Responsible for SPD department stock.: Puts away supplies in the SPD department and rotates stock as needed. Duties are performed with reasonable speed and definite accuracy. Responsible for the daily operations of the business unit in the Supervisor's absence.: Demonstrates ability to take charge and appropriately assigns team members in the interest of business unit and ultimately patient care. The Operating Room (OR) Equipment Technician promotes and assures the smooth functioning of the Operating Room by performing assigned tasks under the direct supervision of OR Service Coordinator, Assistant Nurse Manager, and nurse manager. Assists OR Staff with specialized OR equipment, operating sterilizers, transporting instruments to SPD, obtaining needed X-rays, Blood, Medications, Unit Beds, and specimens when needed. Responsibilities A day in the life of an Equipment Tech at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: Assures certification in Basic Life Support is current. Assures Annual Basic Training is completed. Attends CPR certification course /maintains renewal. Completes ABT annually. Maintains open communication with OR Service Coordinator, Assistant Nurse Manager, OR Staff, Surgeons, Anesthesia staff, SPD Dept and Nursing Units Demonstrates knowledge of radio operation Responds to calls in a timely fashion. Calls the OR to communicate delays, issues. Uses proper etiquette when speaking on the radio. Completes assignments in a timely manner. Sub Sterile Rooms are maintained and stocked. Specimens are sent according to OR Policy times. Stocks surgical supplies when needed. Demonstrates knowledge of specialized equipment in the OR and assists staff with set up in OR Rooms. Handles equipment with care. Attends In-Services for new equipment. Reports problems to Supervisor/Charge Nurse/Coordinators or Manager Returns all equipment to proper place. Keeps equipment clean after use. Demonstrates initiative and ability to function independently. Seeks direction when indicated. Independently offers solutions to potential/real problems. Demonstrates ability to be 'On Call' on weekends and holidays. Monitors Biological Testing for Autoclave units. Demonstrates knowledge of Autoclave function and policies. Maintains proper documentation of B/I tests. Completes assigned task of specimen delivery to Lab. Assures delivery to lab at set times when assigned. Demonstrates the ability to care for patients by providing safe Transportation to the OR. Identifies self and department when approaching patient. Speaks in a polite and professional manner. Assures Patient Identification policy is followed. Follows HMH HIPAA Policy in assuring patient confidentiality. Demonstrates knowledge of function of unit beds, Stretchers, and is sensitive to patients comfort and safety needs at all times. Communicates problems or concerns to the nurse receiving patient. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe OR environment. Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions in the OR setting. Demonstrates proficiency at cleaning rooms between cases. Wears gloves appropriately and washes hands when gloves are removed. Efficiently terminally cleans rooms when assigned and operates the ultraviolet light equipment effectively. Documents Turn Over Room Sheet when completed. Cleans room according to AORN guidelines. Returns basic OR equipment to correct location. Knowledge of Biohazard waste handling. Washes hands appropriately. Assists nursing staff whenever necessary. Reports equipment that is out of order. Sub Sterile Rooms are maintained and stocked. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
