The Sterile Procedures Equipment Technician performs all tasks involved in patient care equipment including pick-up, cleaning and decontamination, delivery and monitoring of unit par levels; handling and stocking supplies for SPD and the OR surgical rooms; cleaning and decontamination of code and specialty carts; and assisting the SPD team members in transport of case carts and supplies.
Full time - Day 9:00 A.M .- 5:30 P.M.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Sterile Procedures Equipment Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Assists in processing of instruments, surgical trays, and surgical case carts.
* Performs duties in the Processing area. Maintains knowledge of instruments and trays and can assemble trays and sets as detailed on set layout sheets. Can operate correctly all machinery associated with the Decontamination and Processing area and identify problems when necessary.
* Checks expiration dates on sterile items.: Checks for outdated items and takes appropriate action if discovered
* Demonstrates proper phone etiquette. Uses proper procedure with callers on the business unit and OR Hotline phones in a courteous and efficient manner.
* Makes daily soil rounds of the medical units. Performs daily soil rounds, visiting all required areas and returns all items to SPD for processing.
* Performs functions in Decontamination area: Responsible for cleaning the instruments, trays and carts. Performs decontamination duties without direction. Has the ability to control the workflow in the Decontamination area.
* Records all processed loads and keeps accurate records. Accurately enters information into record books required to track processed loads. Records Biological indicators into required logs and places Biological indicators into the proper incubator to be processed.
* Responsible for SPD department stock. Puts away supplies in the SPD department and rotates stock as needed. Duties are performed with reasonable speed and definite accuracy.
* Responsible for the daily operations of the business unit in the Supervisor's absence. Demonstrates ability to take charge and appropriately assigns team members in the interest of business unit and ultimately patient care.
* Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
* Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
* Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.

The Emergency & Trauma Center Operations Technician will work under the management of the ETC Operations Manager and is responsible for maintaining the operational needs of the department including customer service, transportation, supplies, equipment and environmental service needs.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Emergency Trauma Center at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Adheres to the ETC customer service standards.
* Assists with environmental service duties in the department or assigned area within the ETC including disposal of recycling/trash receptacles; also linen removal from laundry bins to proper disposal area.
* Assists with environmental service duties, as assigned within the ETC, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment, cables, stretchers/wheelchairs and millwork.
* Consistently uses the patient identification band to confirm appropriate patient identifiers.
* Consistently communicates with clinical team members prior to transporting a patient.
* Transports patients safely throughout the hospital by the use of wheelchairs and with stretcher transports; utilizing the computerized patient transport system.
* Transports specimens to the laboratory, and delivers blood and blood products in a timely manner.
* Transports equipment by picking up and delivering to assigned treatment or patient care areas as needed.
* Assures equipment is maintained and has appropriate biomed labeling.
* Maintains adequate par levels in assigned areas within ETC department.
* Picks up slides for physicians to review from laboratory as requested.
* Obtains supplies from central supply as requested.
* Participates/uses the automated systems in a timely and accurate manner to assist with patient throughput.
* Assists with -maintaining operations within the assigned area of the ETC (i.e., prompt care, pods A, B, C, D & E, Trauma/Resuscitation, Triage Areas, and Sorter Stations).
* Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
* Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
* Adheres to the uniform policy.

Short Description
Decontaminates instruments/sets and patient care equipment using thorough cleaning and disinfecting practices as they are returned to SPD
Consistently performs sterilization functions in a manner in accordance with written manufacture recommendations that provides sterile, complete and patient ready supplies when needed by user areas
Maintains accurate sterilization procedure records, checks sterilizer recorder charts for proper functioning of sterilizing temperatures, pressures and time cycles for each load, performs Bowie and Dick Test daily and spore test daily and with each load that contains implantable devices, and immediately reports malfunctions to the SPD supervisor
Consistently follows departmental policy and procedure for all work practices, disasters and emergencies and departmental rules and regulations.
Strictly adheres to hospital guidelines, universal precautions, aseptic technique
Uses PPE attire when working in the Decontamination area
Communicates with all user areas by telephone and in person in a manner that maintains good relationships with all areas of the hospital.
Responds to STAT requests immediately
Performs both daily maintenance maintains check list and weekly maintenance check list, all areas of the Department in a sanitary and organized condition
Responds to changes in the work schedule as necessary, works all shifts as needed and used time to departmental advantage
Develops thorough knowledge of all equipment/machinery in SPD and operates same in a safe manner
Uses the PICIS System to extract surgical case information in order to assemble case cart requests
Uses the EHS System to maintain proper inventory levels of supplies in SPD as needed daily
Checks assigned area of responsibility at least once per week for outdated supplies, torn wrappers, adequate supply levels, proper rotation and location and reports discrepancies to the SPD Supervisor and reprocesses all Outdates

Experience Required
Previous operating room technician or central supply technician experience (including appropriate certification) preferred.
Previous surgical instrumentation/equipment decontamination and sterilization with familiarity of various instrument sterilization methods required.
Must possess excellent customer service skills, initiative and ability to take independent action, and be capable of establishing and maintaining outstanding working relationships

The Sterile Procedures Equipment Technician performs all tasks involved in patient care equipment including pick-up, cleaning and decontamination, delivery and monitoring of unit par levels; handling and stocking supplies for SPD and the OR surgical rooms; cleaning and decontamination of code and specialty carts; and assisting the SPD team members in transport of case carts and supplies.

Assists in processing of instruments, surgical trays, and surgical case carts.: Performs duties in the Processing area. Maintains knowledge of instruments and trays and can assemble trays and sets as detailed on set layout sheets. Can operate correctly all machinery associated with the Decontamination and Processing area and identify problems when necessary.
Checks expiration dates on sterile items.: Checks for outdated items and takes appropriate action if discovered
Demonstrates proper phone etiquette.: Uses proper procedure with callers on the business unit and OR Hotline phones in a courteous and efficient manner.
Makes daily soil rounds of the medical units.: Performs daily soil rounds, visiting all required areas and returns all items to SPD for processing.
Performs functions in Decontamination area.: Responsible for cleaning the instruments, trays and carts. Performs decontamination duties without direction. Has the ability to control the workflow in the Decontamination area.
Records all processed loads and keeps accurate records.: Accurately enters information into record books required to track processed loads. Records Biological indicators into required logs and places Biological indicators into the proper incubator to be processed.
Responsible for SPD department stock.: Puts away supplies in the SPD department and rotates stock as needed. Duties are performed with reasonable speed and definite accuracy.
Responsible for the daily operations of the business unit in the Supervisor's absence.: Demonstrates ability to take charge and appropriately assigns team members in the interest of business unit and ultimately patient care.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

The Sterile Procedures Equipment Technician performs all tasks involved in patient care equipment including pick-up, cleaning and decontamination, delivery and monitoring of unit par levels; handling and stocking supplies for SPD and the OR surgical rooms; cleaning and decontamination of code and specialty carts; and assisting the SPD team members in transport of case carts and supplies.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Equipment Tech Sterile Procedures at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Assists in processing of instruments, surgical trays, and surgical case carts. Performs duties in the Processing area. Maintains knowledge of instruments and trays and can assemble trays and sets as detailed on set layout sheets. Can operate correctly all machinery associated with the Decontamination and Processing area and identify problems when necessary.
Checks expiration dates on sterile items.: Checks for outdated items and takes appropriate action if discovered
Demonstrates proper phone etiquette. Uses proper procedure with callers on the business unit and OR Hotline phones in a courteous and efficient manner.
Makes daily soil rounds of the medical units. Performs daily soil rounds, visiting all required areas and returns all items to SPD for processing.
Performs functions in Decontamination area. Responsible for cleaning the instruments, trays and carts. Performs decontamination duties without direction. Has the ability to control the workflow in the Decontamination area.
Records all processed loads and keeps accurate records. Accurately enters information into record books required to track processed loads. Records Biological indicators into required logs and places Biological indicators into the proper incubator to be processed.
Responsible for SPD department stock. Puts away supplies in the SPD department and rotates stock as needed. Duties are performed with reasonable speed and definite accuracy.
Responsible for the daily operations of the business unit in the Supervisor's absence. Demonstrates ability to take charge and appropriately assigns team members in the interest of business unit and ultimately patient care.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.
